This week I’m in #Johannesburg for the Inaugural High-Level Annual Conference on Gender and Elections in Africa. @WALPEAfrica
Last time I was in Johannesburg was in November 2024, leading communications for a regional summit. I’m back now as host, humbled by the opportunity to steer an audience and speaker pool that includes sitting and former vice presidents, ministers, leaders in CSOs, media and political parties.
Proud to represent 🇿🇼

Need help applying to graduate school?📣
4 years ago I started doing annual x spaces, & last year, a 4 week zoom series guiding 100s of Africans applying into grad school. I’ve developed that into a free resource that anyone can download via my website. It’s free, but if you feel compelled to, you can buy it for whatever amount you prefer. The website will give you the option to put a number.
I am open to deliver it as a masterclass for groups, as well as have limited capacity to provide paid guidance for individual applications. Website has details on how to reach me.

Good morning humans✨
I always talk about the girls fees program I run, and the plan to setup rural libraries in 🇿🇼. To create value for your contributions, I worked on a digital, illustrated kids story that draws from my childhood. It comes with printable activity sheets that help kids think about their place in the world. This is one of the 7 part series on citizenship and purpose that doing for kids. .
Price is set at $5 with the option to pay more. 50% of net proceeds goes to the rural schools initiatives I mentioned.

For those in countries where Visa card payments are a nightmare, the site will show you alternative payment options, including ecocash for Zimbabweans.
Do share with friends, and buy for different kids🙏🏾
As you all know I’ve been talking about libraries in rural communities and also have been running the girls fees program. I decided to build a story that you can read and read to your children that draws a bit from my childhood eNkulumane. When you pay for the digital booklet/story, 50% of net proceeds go directly to the schools program.
It’s the first in a series where I am intentionally teaching children what it means to be a citizen, and how they can exist in purpose and belonging.
Support the story, get kids reading/ learning, and support me while at it.
The copies are digital. Price is set at $5 but you are free to pay more.

Good morning humans✨
How confident are you in yourself?
I turned bits of my undergraduate (BSc Psychology) research into a free 6-minute leadership confidence assessment with a personal report and a 7-day practice.🧡
Do try it out, and share it with the people in your life who may benefit from a little reminder of their strengths and where they can improve.

Are we slowly writing like ChatGPT, or is ChatGPT progressively writing like us? When I was at school, I wrote love letters for other boys courting girls. Some relationships, and perhaps even marriages, may have been founded on words from my pen!😜 That is a story for another day.
I became a wordsmith of sorts, largely because I was an obsessive reader (still am). I read anything I could get my hands on, including novels, newspapers from front to back, religious books, autobiographies, magazines, and even adult content. If it had words, I read it.
Over time, without consciously imitating anyone, my vocabulary, writing style and command of language came to reflect what I consumed. Later in my professional life, colleagues sought me out for reports, strategies, manuals, policies, standards and all manner of official correspondence.
Decades later, this experience has led me to an intriguing question. If reading what other humans wrote shaped how I write, could repeatedly reading, editing and refining ChatGPT's output eventually make us write more like AI, even when we are writing entirely on our own?
Many of us increasingly use ChatGPT, Grammarly, QuillBot and other AI applications to draft, edit, paraphrase, polish and even “humanise” our writing. We read the outputs, revise them, read them again, and repeat the process, sometimes several times a day.
Could repeated exposure to AI-generated language be quietly reshaping how we write, even when we are not using AI? Not by copying and pasting, but through the same subconscious absorption of vocabulary, syntax, rhythm and structure that shaped my writing decades ago.
I suspect we may be witnessing the early stages of what I described in June as AI-mediated linguistic convergence: a gradual alignment of human writing with patterns commonly found in AI-generated text. And here is another fascinating possibility. As AI influences human writing, and some of that writing enters the datasets used to train future AI models, could we create a feedback loop in which humans and machines increasingly shape each other's language?
When I first raised this question in my June article, it was a personal hypothesis. Since then, research published in Nature Human Behaviour has reported measurable reductions in linguistic diversity associated with AI-assisted writing. That does not yet prove the subconscious influence I am suggesting, but it makes the question even more interesting.
I do not necessarily see this as a bad development. It may improve clarity, accessibility and the quality of written communication. But it could also influence individuality, creativity and the distinctive voices we develop through our experiences.
I became a writer largely through reading what others wrote. Soon, we could learn more and more from writing produced by both humans and machines.
Have you noticed yourself adopting expressions, vocabulary or sentence structures from ChatGPT, even when writing entirely on your own?
