How does MOL generate these lists? What are the limitations? What taxonomies are used?

An important feature of the species lists is the ability to track each species back to the exact dataset it came from: was it recorded in this area, or is it expected to occur there based on an expert range map?

The Regions tools allows users to select any country, state or province, or protected area anywhere in the world and create their own custom area for on-the-fly species list generation:

The Species Habitat Index assesses ecosystem integrity by calculating habitat loss at the species level.
Explore the status of your country’s biodiversity and find those species most threatened by habitat loss at mol.org/indicators/habitat/r…

Progress in animal tracking is opening the door for a "...movement data-informed characterization of how landscapes are changing."
"We're able to automatically derive home range size, movement paths, and other ecological variables."

Walter Jetz on opportunities in Internet of Animals & the fusion of movement & remote sensing data:
"The exciting news is we’re able to do [animal movement annotation] at scale...we can go more fluidly between geographic & niche space" using tools like mol.org/stoat/!

+ a single estimate is not too helpful when many species have lost close to 0% and others have lost 100%, so instead we study variability in genetic diversity losses
Many threatened species must have lost a lot (>>10%) based on habitat loss, and it will keep ongoing @moldotorg
