JUST IN: The National Bureau of Investigation is recommending to the Department of Justice the filing of obstruction of justice, cyber libel, and publication of false news complaints against former Davao City chief information officer Jefry Tupas, according to Director Melvin Matibag. Tupas, a former aide of Vice President Sara Duterte, is implicated in the “cash delivery” claims of dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. He was recently subpoenaed to shed light on Gracioso’s allegations, but he only sent a lawyer to submit a counter-affidavit. Tupas then alleged that the bureau “initiated efforts” to bring him to Manila after agents who went to his house in North Cotabato supposedly offered him security, as they had received a “verifiable threat” that he would be abducted by the Dutertes. He also said the NBI allegedly offered him money and a place in Metro Manila, even in Forbes Park, Makati City. Responding to this, Matibag earlier said it was Tupas who actually brought up that there were threats to his life—and not the bureau’s agents. Matibag also said that Tupas’ allegations are “a bit outrageous,” pointing out that the NBI cannot afford to house anyone in Forbes Park. READ MORE: inqnews.net/MatibagonPaoloPr…

MAAWA NAMAN KAYO! Yesterday’s budget hearing left me torn between despair and hope. Engaging with diverse advocacy groups, both young and old, united as guardrails for public funds was truly inspiring. As a steadfast budget vanguard myself, it has further strengthened my resolve.

We do not agree with it, we are appealing, and publicly our government says it. That is our independent thinking.

Somebody had the gall to suggest that my Senate colleagues should decline a VP appointment from PBBM if the impeachment trial ends in conviction. While “no comment” would be the most appropriate response to such a nonsensical idea, silence might be misconstrued as interest in the position. Let me be clear: I have a mandate to fulfill until 2031, and the VP post is not under consideration. What if PBBM considers appointing Sen. Lito Lapid because he is makamasa and has a good heart? Must Sen. Lapid decline simply because he is a senator-judge? Isn’t that a foolish proposition?

NAGA CITY SETS UP 4-000L RAINWATER CATCHMENT FACILITY LOOK: Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo announced the installation of a 4,000-liter-capacity water catchment facility in Barangay Sabang, which can source water from rain, jetmatic pumps, and deep wells, with a solar-powered pump to make water collection easier. The facility aims to help communities with limited water access as the Marcos administration encourages rainwater collection in preparation for potential El Niño impacts. | 📸: Robredo/Facebook

The US Department of War has designated Confucius Institutes as a threat to American national security. Secretary Hegseth said 80 of them reappeared across 30 universities under different names, with the same mission: to infiltrate the minds of students. The same is happening here in the Philippines. We host Confucius Institutes at various universities, each with a co-director sent from China. Retired Justice Carpio warned in 2022 that they can propagate the falsehood of the nine-dash line. Beijing's campaign against the Philippines is not waged only at sea. It is also waged in classrooms. If our closest treaty ally sees these institutions as a national security threat, it is time we ask the same hard questions.🤔

China will destroy the PH society. POGO's, gambling hub, drugs proliferation, crimes, police working more as bodyguards or protectors, full control of PH claimed Spratley islands, etc. The Filipino culture will be undermined, weak as it is now already. Do we want that?

Teodoro to PMAers: Reject defeatism, pursue ambitious defense plans MANILA – Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has urged future military leaders at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to pursue more ambitious defense plans and "defeat defeatism," saying the Philippines cannot afford complacency when its sovereignty and territory are at stake. Speaking at the PMA’s founding anniversary on Saturday, Teodoro said the country must accelerate efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities and respond to evolving security threats. “We need to be ambitious in order to have the right motivation to deal with these challenges, and to defeat defeatism, and to show an example to the public that we are ready, willing, and able to stand firmly and proudly for the core values of the Republic of the Philippines,” he said. “The Philippines cannot afford to be laid-back and non-ambitious and conservative, particularly when its territory and sovereignty are concerned,” he added. Teodoro said the country must make up for lost time in preparing for national security challenges, noting that defense plans should have been laid out years ago. “When national security is concerned, ambitious plans needed to have been laid down on the ground years ago. But we cannot recoup the past, we can only make the present faster,” he said. He cited emerging technologies, new operational domains and the growing weaponization of information as challenges requiring the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PMA to continuously adapt and develop leaders capable of anticipating and managing future threats. “We are in a race and a struggle to increase our capabilities and increase our footprint, and increase our ability to enforce our laws within a vast maritime domain that we have and we are fighting for,” Teodoro said. He described the PMA as a specialized institution tasked with providing world-class education while preparing cadets for deployment as junior officers in the AFP and, in the future, the Philippine Coast Guard. Teodoro also emphasized the distinction between education, which builds knowledge, and training, which develops the practical skills needed for military service. He reaffirmed the need for a professional, knowledgeable and highly trained armed force capable of protecting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity. During the anniversary celebration, Teodoro and PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michael G. Logico recognized distinguished officers, personnel, and individual and institutional partners of the Academy. Cielo Magno will never win Class E vote and will not win as senator. And whether that is correct or not is beside the point. She's showing her arrogance by insulting the poorest. The use of words 'mangmang', 'squatter', 'walang pinagaralan', etc reflects also on the speaker.
