Oftentimes, I think one of the most beautiful things about being Catholic is that the Saints remind me that God doesn’t ask us to be perfect before He can love us. He has never asked for perfection before relationship. When I read the lives of the Saints, I don’t see people who had everything figured out. I see people who struggled. People who made mistakes. People who battled their weaknesses. People who cried, doubted, suffered and sometimes fell. But they kept going back to God. And somehow, that makes holiness feel less distant to me. St. Peter denied Jesus. St. Augustine wandered far before finding his way home. St. Thérèse showed us that even little, ordinary acts can become offerings of love. Their stories whisper something I desperately need to remember: You can be a work in progress and still be deeply loved by God. The Saints don’t make me feel like I have to become perfect to approach God. They make me believe that I can approach Him exactly as I am—and allow Him to slowly transform me. And then there is the beautiful mystery of believing that those who have gone before us can still pray for us. I find that incredibly comforting. I am walking my little, imperfect journey here on earth, surrounded by people who walked theirs before me and finished well. Not because they were perfect. Because they kept choosing God. Perhaps that is why I love Padre Pio so much. A man who carried tremendous physical and spiritual suffering, endured misunderstanding and scrutiny, yet kept returning everything to God through prayer, sacrifice and trust. They don’t make me feel like holiness belongs to a special class of people. They make me believe that perhaps, with God’s grace, an ordinary person like me can become holy too. And maybe you don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate that truth: **You don’t have to have your life perfectly together before you turn towards God. Just turn.** He knows what to do with the heart that keeps coming back. ❤️
