Yes, Binance was hacked. It was also robbed.
I understand the terminology. I just dislike how easily we forget that there are people who steal and people who get robbed.
When someone robbed a bank, we didn’t confuse the cashier with the criminal.
Of course Binance has to explain what failed and fix it. But let’s remember who committed the theft.
What I really want to talk about is the response.
Quick updates. Clear explanations. A commitment to cover the losses. People showing up and treating users like adults.
Speaking from Spain, I honestly feel envious.
How many of us wish the people running our countries responded with that urgency? Giving information, protecting people, earning trust through what they actually do.
Under my own microscope, Binance’s response so far deserves a 10/10.
There’s still work ahead. I have no doubt they’ll keep doing it.
Trust the people who give you reasons to trust them. With actions.

A birthday party yesterday reminded me how small our crypto bubble really is.
Most of us were around 40. Family, politics, investments. The usual.
Then a friend asked what actually gives Bitcoin value.
A flat or a plot of land made sense to him. He could see it, touch it, stand on it. Bitcoin was harder to grasp.
I talked about a market that never closes, with buyers and sellers deciding the price.
I understand his instinct. Especially here in Spain, where property is such a familiar investment.
Inside our bubble, we discuss Bitcoin, BNB and the ecosystem every day. We start assuming everyone else has caught up. Sometimes we even convince ourselves every business opportunity has already been taken.
Then a conversation at a birthday party brings you back to earth.
There’s still so much room to explain things clearly, make products easier to use and build something people actually need.
That’s where I still see opportunity.
We’re very, very early. Spending all day talking to each other makes it easy to forget.

We stand with @Binance and the teams who have been working relentlessly on the security incident since last night.
For our community: BNB Smart Chain, opBNB, BNB Greenfield and BNB Chain bridges were not affected. Everything is running as normal and funds on BNB Chain are safe.
Binance has always put its users first and stood behind them in tough moments, and we have full confidence in the team as they work through this.
Moments like this remind all of us how important security is. Trust in this industry is something we all share, and we'll keep working with partners across the ecosystem to protect it, every day.
Binance has begun recovering affected assets for users and continues to work with law enforcement, issuers, blockchain intelligence firms and industry partners to trace, freeze and recover additional funds.
The company has already publicly committed to cover losses through company funds in the prior announcement.
Binance has already reserved over $6.34B of company funds to cover this incident. $5B of these funds are already held in the exact token assets that were impacted. We are completing the purchase of the remaining amount by buying token assets through market channels and OTC channels. We are doing this to match the format of the remaining token assets and address any asset shortfalls. This step can take longer because some tokens may have low liquidity and OTC settlement also takes time. We will share more progress as soon as we can.
These figures do not include frozen or protected assets, which remain subject to ongoing recovery and verification. Currently, $3bn has been frozen, with thanks to our industry partners. We are working with partners and law enforcement to recover the frozen assets.We will continue to use company resources to cover confirmed shortfall and will provide further verified updates as recovery efforts progress. Ultimately, all user funds will be verified publicly through our Proof of Reserves.
