Last year’s winner @MarkHarsley acted as this year’s emcee. The presenters did a fantastic job and pushed through the awkwardness that is sharing a passion while starting at a tiny screen on stage. Props to Indy Chamber for the creative delivery as well.

When Mark was in federal prison, the most uplifting parts of his time there were when he received messages of support from friends and family. Their encouragement led him to apply to @KenzieAcademy to become a software developer upon release.

In institutions across the country, a "kite" is communication among inmates. During lockdowns, Mark would see people sending messages on strings to communicate with one another across cells. That was the inspiration for @kitemailapp

"Communication is essential to all of us." Research shows that incarcerated individuals who are able to stay connected to family and friends as there support group are less likely to return to prison.

"We take snail mail for granted in the US, but for inmates, it's the primary way to connect with the outside world. We wanted to provide a way to keep it affordable for families."
