1/ We know that any price rise is a concern for families. Wholesale gas prices remain 75% above their levels before Russia invaded Ukraine. That is the fossil fuel penalty being paid by families, businesses and our economy.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Figures provided by Ofgem show that the wholesale gas price in the UK is now actually below the level it was prior to Russia invading Ukraine in February 2022. ofgem.gov.uk/news-and-insig…

Climate action is not incompatible with economic transformation. Instead, they are inextricably linked, argues @MarkWatts_ of @c40cities.

Pope Francis was a true global leader whose commitment to climate justice has inspired millions. On behalf of C40 Cities, I extend our deepest condolences and reaffirm our dedication to the urgent climate action he so passionately championed.

From his groundbreaking Laudato si’ encyclical in 2015 to his championing of local communities and urgent call for action in Laudate Deum, Pope Francis consistently reminded world leaders of their responsibility to protect our planet, the vulnerable, and future generations.

His message resonated strongly with mayors and city leaders who were honoured to meet the Pope on several occasions, most recently at the Vatican climate summit in May 2024. Pope Francis’s leadership will continue to inspire us as we work to create a sustainable, fairer world.

It's inspiring to see C40 Co-Chair & @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan and Governor of Nairobi @SakajaJohnson working collaboratively to address the climate crisis, and foster closer ties. Together, city leaders can spearhead the urgent climate action the world needs.
Global cooperation on the climate crisis has never been more important. I was delighted to welcome the Governor of Nairobi Johnson Sakaja to City Hall today and discuss how our cities can work more closely together to reduce the impact of the climate emergency.

Great to plant a tree as part of #FreetownTheTreetown - where residents earn tokens to plant and monitor trees. So far over 1.2 million trees have been planted - helping strengthen resilience & reduce carbon emissions. A brilliant example of climate action delivering economic & environmental benefits.

Air pollution isn’t just an environmental issue - it’s a public health emergency claiming over 8 million lives annually. We need national governments to step up to ensure the right to clean air is afforded to all.
Speaking on behalf of C40 Co-Chairs @MayorofLondon and @yakisawyerr, @metecoban92 spoke at the @WHO Conference on Air Pollution and Health. By putting people at the heart of clean air action, city leaders can create healthier, thriving places to live, play and work. c40.org/news/statement-who-c…

Cities are at the forefront of tackling the climate crisis - but they need the best available evidence to drive real change. The latest special issue of the Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy is led by cities and features case studies and analysis from multiple sectors and regions and how on-the-ground action can shape policy and inform science.
📖 The latest issue of the Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy is here. Research and city practitioners connect and share the knowledge and approaches needed for cities to meet their climate goals. utppublishing.com/toc/jccpe/…
