“This is it, guys. We're going to die. Goodbye! Glory to Ukraine!” One day, Ukraine will rebuild its destroyed homes, schools, streets, and bridges. But rebuilding our cities will not be enough. We will face an even greater responsibility: preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for our freedom. Among the thousands of Ukrainian heroes are two boys from Berdyansk who will forever remain sixteen years old: Tigran Ohannisyan and Mykyta Khanhanov. They were teenagers with their entire lives ahead of them. They should have been studying, falling in love, making plans, and dreaming about the future. Instead, they found themselves living under brutal Russian occupation. But they refused to surrender their dignity or accept the occupation. They resisted until the very end. Tigran's final recorded words — “This is it, guys. We're going to die. Goodbye! Glory to Ukraine!” — spread around the world, becoming a symbol of courage and resistance among a new generation of Ukrainians. I believe that one day, monuments to Tigran and Mykyta will stand in the streets of a liberated Berdyansk and in cities across Ukraine. Two young men standing shoulder to shoulder, proud, fearless, and smiling — exactly as they deserve to be remembered. These monuments should not exist merely to remind us of tragedy. They should remind every young person walking past them that freedom is never guaranteed and that some people paid for it with everything they had. Sixteen years old. Two lives stolen. Two futures destroyed by Russia's occupation. Their names must never disappear from our history. And to their parents, we owe something that can never be fully repaid: the promise that their sons will never be forgotten. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to its heroes. 🇺🇦
