Just woke up my sourdough starter after months in the fridge… and brought you along for the whole process. 🥖🐔 There’s something so satisfying about bringing a starter back to life. A little stir, a little flour, a little patience… and suddenly it’s bubbling again like it never left. But here’s my favorite part most people don’t think about… The discard doesn’t go to waste on this homestead. It goes straight to the chickens. Even “old” discard still has beneficial microbes (yes… I tried to say lactobacillus on camera and we’re just gonna pretend I nailed it 😂). Once it’s mixed with their grains and a little water, it turns into a fermented mash that’s easier to digest and packed with nutrition. Happy chickens. Less waste. Better eggs. That’s a win all the way around. So this morning looked like: • Reactivating my starter step-by-step • Saving the discard • Mixing up a fermented feed for the flock • And a whole lot of chickens very excited about it This is the kind of rhythm I’ve really been leaning into lately… slower, more intentional, using what we already have. And I want you here for it. Whether you’re fully homesteading or just curious, you’re always welcome in my kitchen and out here with me. TIMELINE CLEANSE 🐷✨ If your feed has been full of chaos, politics, and doomscrolling… here’s a reset. Tonight we called our neighbor’s pigs over during our walk, and my daughter Empress Heavy started petting them. One by one… they literally laid down and fell asleep. Snoring. In a pile. 😴🐷 Apparently the secret to world peace is belly rubs for pigs.
