I know a lot of VFX folks fear AI, but wouldn't they be light years ahead of the average Joe if they embraced it? I just ask so I can better understand the trepidation. New technology always causes fear.

AI "Stealing from artists" is a misnomer
LLMs don't hold a copy of the work and pass it's output verbatim.
The act of training models on artistic work in a legitimate way is not "stealing". You're not stealing Jane Austen's work if you train an LLM on it and then use that LLM to create new work based upon it.
Artists become artists because we have something to say.
Ask any artist if they would be object to their work being used as inspiration or built upon. And so it has been since human etched the first paintings on a cave wall.
IP, copyright laws exist so that artists are recognized and remunerated for their contribution. They should be upheld irrespective of AI.
We can debate AI filmmaking all day, but none of it matters without a good story. Story is king and will always be.
Being against Generative AI is fine, but shouldn’t folks be able to tell their stories in whatever medium they choose? Who are we to tell them not to? Creativity shouldn’t be stifled. In the end it is the audience who decides.

Yeah, this is true. People do know that Blade in the movies is 97% different from the comics. Blade is British in the comics and had a way different look. The films made comic book Blade look like Snipes after.
Snipes made Blade his after he lost Black Panther in the 90s.
Blade 2 director Guillermo del Toro says Wesley Snipes is 100% responsible for Marvel's daywalking vampire hero having his iconic personality. bit.ly/4j124XT
