Dr Nguyen is a superstar and leading innovation in the machine perfusion space, and took a simple idea - biomarker indicators at discrete time points miss information that can be valuable - and is translating that into a device that could be applied in-line with a circuit for a wide palette of markers, which may assist surgeons in organ selection, prognostication, and ultimately improve access to transplant.
Excited to share that our work on the DCBM (dual-compartment biochemical monitoring) platform normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) is now published in Nature Communications. @NaturePortfolio . rdcu.be/ftJnK This platform enables real-time simultaneous analysis of perfusate and bile during NMP, giving us better tools to assess organ viability and support clinical decision-making for liver transplantation. This was a strong partnership between @MayoClinic and @TerasakiInst for Biomedical Innovation. Grateful for the close collaboration with Dr. Yangzhi Zhu, whose work with his team at Terasaki made this platform possible. Thank you to Dr. @aqel_bashar , Chair of Transplant, and Dr. @MathurAmitK MD MS FACS MS FACS, Surgical Liver Director, for their guidance and support, and to all our co-authors who contributed to this work. Looking forward to continuing this collaboration with Dr. Zhu and the Terasaki team as we push toward clinical translation.

Two of my favorite people working in transplantation! Join me in congratulating them.
ASTS Director of Advocacy & Professional Practices, Emily Besser, MA, CAE, and NLDAC Senior Coordinator, Marie-Claire Walters, have been honored as part of the @ODTAlliance "40 Under 40"—recognizing their outstanding contributions to organ donation and transplantation! organdonationalliance.org/ab…

It has been an amazing transplant year at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. We surpassed the volume of previous years. Our abdominal transplant programs completed milestones in liver (322), kidney (506), kidney/pancreas (52), and pancreas alone (2). New innovations abound - robotic kidney transplantation and living donation, machine perfusion of organs, advances in organ retrieval, transplant oncology, training and educational excellence, and research initiatives that will shape the future of transplantation. Our programs have continued to provide our patients with excellence in clinical outcomes, hope, and unparalleled experience. It is always gratifying to hear from patients that “it just works so well here at Mayo” which is a milestone in and of itself.

It was an honor to give the ReMine lecture at the Priestley Society @MayoClinic in Amelia Island. There are new demands on surgical leaders and we need to build skills to meet the challenge.
It was a distinct honor to introduce @MathurAmitK as the ReMine Lecturer at the Annual Priestley Society Meeting, and to share our experience w/ robotics in transplantation w/ Alumni members. Wonderful to reconnect with current & former @MayoAZSurg residents as well.

Major liver transplant program milestone today at @MayoClinic in Arizona. We completed our 3,000th liver transplant since the program began in 1999. Big thanks to our transplant team, an amazing hospital, hospital leaders, and, of course, for the trust of our patients and their families. The journey continues! #mayotransplant

🙌🏾 Honored to represent @ASNKidney at the @NLDAC_ASTS Advisory Group Meeting (Sept 26, 2025 | Arlington, VA) as incoming AG vice chair. 🤝🏽 Wonderful to meet with the #NLDAC Program Team ➕ #AdvisoryGroup members to review progress in reducing #FinancialDisincentives💸to #LivingDonation through the 'Living Organ Donor Reimbursement Program' (#LODRP) — covering travel, lost wages, and dependent care for eligible donors. 🙏🏽Thanks @HealthLitMedia team for leading new public education initiatives to expand awareness of the LODRP, helping ensure that more potential #LivingDonors know about and can benefit from these critical supports. ✨Grateful to be part of this work advancing support for living donors and the patients whose lives they transform.🌟 🫶🏼Living organ donors make an extraordinary difference. Thankful for efforts to reduce financial barriers to their generosity in sharing the #GiftOfLife.💙💚 🤝🏽#LivingDonation #NLDAC #LODRP #LivingDonation #Transplantation #PublicEducation | #HealthLiteracy | @MathurAmitK | @amywaterman | @CatinaOLeary | @MonaDoshiMD | @kteltser | @NLDAC_ASTS | @ASTSChimera | @ASNKidney | @AST_info | @SSMHealthSTL🤝🏽
