Automation as the path to accelerating science makes no sense. Very little of scientific work is bound by efficient cause. A credible path must improve measurement, interpretation, construction (!!), and observation, all of which are difficult to automate.

The peculiar fun of having to give up every abstraction humanity has relied on since time immemorial. Space as made of points, time as homogeneous, both perfectly continuous.

Glad I talked the foundry into letting us bring a photographer in. With AI everywhere, there’s something pretty cool about showing Americans actually making things.

My view, which I've publicly held for a long time, is that nobody actually wants to do proofs about their programs (except a tiny but vocal minority). People instead want *confidence* in their programs. Finally, we can focus on the human factors we've neglected all along.
One heartening thing about the @AnthropicAI + @theoremlabs verification work: almost every PL researcher on my feed is excited about the future and seeing years of research put to use. Quite a contrast to the “AI is taking our jobs” mood I’ve seen in other communities.

The secret about "before math" is no one was using most of the results, did not care about most uses of the results. Integrating the most basic things we know about math into culture is what we should strive for.

For microcosms within microcosms, the only stable qualities are the principles they follow and their commitment to following those principles

Patterns reveal themselves in the spaces between forms. Merging and overlapping show how sets combine while isolation and opposite mark clear boundaries. Hierarchy and structure organize nodes into ordered graphs, and connections link them into networks. Influence and spreading radiate outward from a center, while attraction and concentration pull inward. Chaos scatters without direction; the circle and whole restore unity. Simple shapes encode the logic of systems.

As I was saying the other day, there's no physical explanation for how we go from moment to moment when each moment is engulfed by astronomical infinity on one side and asymptotic infinitesimality on the other. The only possible explanation for the existence of the temporal ensemble is transcendence. However, the implication for the moment is that when time doesn't exist neither does space. The moment is all conception. The moment is when anything is not only possible, but essential. The moment is when we are molded to the infinite essentiality. The moment is when we touch heaven and meet God.
increasingly concerned that ai is revealing the mathematical world as negatively curved. instead of everyone wandering about in idea-space and clustering around the same famous conjectures (local positive curvature), ai is pushing out the boundaries rapidly and revealing that the space of mathematical ideas is ~hyperbolic (negative curvature). though this means there's lots left to discover, it also means that small separations between people/agents will lead to wandering alone. we may be emerging into an idea-space where there's so much to see and do but everyone is alone in a private heaven, unable to share their subtle joys with others...
