How does submitting to international arbitration make Egypt good at law? The analysis was done by somebody other than Egypt.

People who make this argument seem to think this is a carte blanche for violence. Its not. International law in such circumstances allows the "occupying force" to do quite a lot to prevent and prosecute such "armed struggle". The law doesnt say just let yourself be killed.
Palestinians have a right to self defence against an occupying force. Palestinians have a right to armed struggle that is enshrined in international law.

An absolutely incredible thread.
Replying to @grok
@grok are General Assembly resolutions as such legally binding on U.N. members? This guy seems to think the United States and China agreed to allow Tonga and Papua New Guinea to team up with others, form a majority, and impose binding law on them.

For people in the comments who don't understand the current dynamics of journalism. I broke the story of Ewert's return to jail on Friday-a full day before CBC confirmed that he was back in jail. My posts alone about Ewert across social media platforms had over 875,000 views. As one indie reporter. It's 2026-independent journalists ARE the news. There is still some confusion in the comments about why a geriatric violent offender was admitted into McGill Law School and whether or not Ewert had served his time. Ewert is serving a life sentence. He was sentenced back when Canada still operated under the rule of law. Ewert was, therefore, only released on day parole due to an activist judge who overturned the parole board's ruling that he was too dangerous to release. The parole board did their job in attempting to keep him in jail. A liberal-appointed activist judge overturned their decision, citing Gladue in her ruling. Due to many parole condition violations, her idiotic decision to grant him parole has now been suspended, at least for the time-being. To my knowledge, he can still appeal again in the future. Criminal background checks are not typically part of Canadian universities’ admissions processes. It's unclear at what point McGill knew Ewert was a violent convicted criminal because they cite privacy concerns as to why they won't offer a fulsome accounting of what happened. However, Ewert's lawyer Nora Demnati had stated that McGill was, "Fully aware of his history and his status." His lawyer elaborated that his going to law school was a well-established plan that was discussed with relevant parties as part of his rehabilitation plan. Students were not informed of his record by the university (again, privacy constraints were cited.) Some of the students responded with a petition to have him reinstated in class. Other students responded with a petition against his return to class. Background checks are typical for regulated professions. The law society has a "good character" requirement for licensing, but regulatory regimes are ideologically-captured, so it's impossible to know whether or not the law society would have excluded him or welcomed the opportunity for "Restorative justice." I am highly sceptical as to what Ewert's LSAT scores and pre-university grades were like. Law school is highly competitive and giving a place to an undeserving convicted violent criminal who would already be passed retirement age once he began to practise (if he even finished and passed the bar), means that a young, deserving person missed out on a lifetime opportunity. It is, of course, absolutely ridiculous and wrong that the Canadian taxpayer, who subsidizes tuition costs for law students, would have to contribute even one red cent to the educational costs of a geriatric who is a convicted child rapist and torturer, as well as a convicted killer. But this is where we are at in Canada, thanks to ideological capture of our institutions and no political will to overturn previous terrible decisions by the Liberals.
⚠️ Breaking News ⚠️ It has been reported to me that Jeffrey George Ewert is back in jail. In 1984, Ewert sexually assaulted and strangled one woman to death, and weeks later severely beat and choked a 15-year-old girl who rejected his advances. The girl survived but was left permanently brain-damaged, blind, and quadriplegic. The Parole Board of Canada refused Ewert day parole, concluding he still posed an undue risk. But activist judge Justice Jocelyne Gagné overturned the Parole Board on the basis of Gladue. R. V. Gladue is part of a two-tier legal framework in Canada which holds indigenous offenders to a lower standard. Evert was thereafter released on parole and inexplicably began law classes and attending faculty events at McGill in August 2026. Students were not informed of his history. Clinical assessments rated his risk of violent sexual reoffending as moderate to high. In early October, McGill barred him from campus while reviewing the safety situation. In response, some students started a petition to permit Ewert to return to class. I screen recorded Ewert's Facebook page before he locked it down. The video of his activities, including a female classmate's interactions with him, are detailed in the video. Sound on for narration. It's undetermined whether Ewert was returned to jail because of what appear to be blatant parole condition violations on his social media account, or for another reason. But, for now at least, young women at McGill and in Montréal are safe from this convicted predator.

I think you are talking about what your grandfathers did to Papua. Israel just takes notes from you people. Also, what is your immigration status in the United States?

Perhaps you should take a stroll down to the history department of your university and argue Stalin defeating Nazi Germany doesn't count because he once struck a deal with them.

This is your typical "international law professor." I see the memo has gone out. @grok, explain to this person that the "right of resistance" general assembly resolutions are not legally binding on Israel nor is Protocol I.

What a dumb question. Israel soldiers are in the West Bank because the Palestinians literally told them they could be there. @grok per the Oslo Accords, did the Palestinian Authority agree that Israeli troops would be permitted in the West Bank?
Replying to @bradlander
What were the soldiers doing in the occupied West Bank? Should they have been there, Brad? What is this depraved schtick you’re peddling?

Not a joke at all. They're wrong. Explain to me why those territories are "occupied" and Be'er Sheva is not. Don't inundate me. Go one at a time. Show me specifically where and when the definition of what territory qualifies as occupied changed in the intervening years.
Is this a joke? You realize even the Israeli High Court considers the OPT occupied.

Easy. There is no "occupation." Even if there were, it is not illegal and Israel has not consented to any right to "resist occupation." Total absence of any relevant treaty ratification or opinio juris and state practice.
Explain how the killing of two soldiers manning a checkpoint as a part of an illegal military occupation was a “criminal act” please

"Bukele’s results rest on a purged judiciary." In other words, it was the judiciary that stood in the way of El Salvador becoming the safest place in the Western Hemisphere. This is an indictment on the judiciary, not Bukele. Thanks for conceding Bukele's point.
According to @jacknicas @nytimes, the Bukeleization of Latin America has arrived, with Washington’s backing. Bukele’s results rest on a purged judiciary, an indefinite state of exception & a gang pact US prosecutors documented. Imitators can build megaprisons & film the videos. But undermining the courts takes longer, and in Ecuador, for example, judges are already releasing many of the ~58,000 people Noboa’s government arrested this year. Under the Trump Corollary, Washington rewards imitation, which puts the courts next in line. From Quito to Brasília, judges are the last check between a crackdown and a prison state like El Salvador’s. nytimes.com/2026/10/23/world…

There was no occupation on 10/7. I suggest you read Chiragov v. Armenia. No boots on the ground, no occupation. International law 101 going back to the Hostages Case at Nuremberg.
Walzer gets it backwards (again): Israel’s war on Gaza did not become unjust because of its cruelty; it was unjust from the beginning as a modality of a politically, morally and legally untenable occupation. It has always been wrong to think an unjust war could be waged justly.

What was the homicide rate in El Salvador when "civil society" was to your liking?
The opposition to @nayibbukele and civil society organizations in El Salvador may well end up being disappointed again, if they put too much hope on a Democratic Congress. Why? Under @JoeBiden, a stronger stance in defense of human rights and the rule of law was hoped for, but his administration ended up aiding and abetting Bukele’s consolidation of power and the closing of civic space in El Salvador.

Actually, giving this guy the death penalty would have improved society. Were he executed, he would not be causing emotional distress to countless McGill students with his presence. Net positive. Would you say ideologies that support the death penalty are barbaric?
Yes, but it's a well known fact that you can't go back in time. We can and should punish criminals for their acts, but the system we have in place is also built on the data saying that humans can change and past a point, harsh sentences do not improve society. Again, open a book.

Years ago, Jeffrey George Ewert raped and killed a young woman and beat a girl into a paralyzed, vegetative state. Now he's trying to pursue the privilege of a legal education at McGill, in proximity to the many young women who attend campus. It should be out of the question. Instead of calling out the hazard, the law students' association accused the university of not providing adequate support to a formerly incarcerated student and asked for a "circle discussion led by an Elder" to help students process "recent events." A student-alumni petition urges that Ewert return to campus. Everyone here seems to be forgetting that a key part of preserving the legitimacy of our justice institutions involves keeping out society's worst criminals (such as rapists and murderers). For those curious, this is the individual spearheading efforts to expose his female classmates to the rapist-murderer.
A convicted killer who sexually assaulted and killed one woman and choked a 15-year-old so severely that she was paralyzed and disabled for life has been granted day parole to attend law school at McGill University in Montreal while living in a halfway house despite "clinical assessments that ranked Ewert’s risk of reoffending as moderate to high." His parole petition was denied in 2022 but a court overrode it for failing to take into account his status as a person of native ancestry. Canadian law called the Gladue Principles explicitly dictate leniency to indigenous criminals. His lawyer says "“He applied to McGill law with the help of many students, of law professors and McGill University was fully aware of his history and his status and where he comes from."

It’s a humorous tweet when the BBC has had to walk back so many stories because they misrepresented the facts about Gaza. Kind of like you do! Anyways, back to the question: What war has occurred without war crimes?
Maybe you should lie less rather than complain you’re being caught too often?
