This is me shooting my shot. I think this video misses and I think my team can do better. The hook should be revealing the computer. It takes 50 seconds to get to the computer, the hero of the video. We need to show the computer in use, not just being made. Here's my offer @PalmerLuckey: My team will strategize and build your next video. If it flops, I will completely refund you. PS. full video breakdown in the next tweet.
BlueChip. Built in America. America made the first electronic computer to win a war. Now we depend on our greatest adversaries to build the computers that run our economy and defend our nation. Today, we bring it home.

Long-form is coming to Instagram, but more importantly, HORIZONTAL will be on Instagram. What does this mean for advertisers? You will now need to think about horizontal ads similar to YouTube. There will be SO MUCH ALPHA in this placement. Horizontal - as God intended.

"Bolster their marketing efforts" You cannot run more ads to get more eyeballs when the game is in the middle of the day. This is 9:30 AM pacific on thursday. Majority of america will be at work. This is insane.

Did you notice @johnsummit just became the Chief Destruction Officer for @away? This comes after he went viral burning his @RIMOWA suitcase after frustration of it breaking. Away brought him on in their latest campaign for their aluminum suitcase launch. Instead of leading with product features, Away brought culture and a viral moment into their launch.

Every brand wants to get net new customers but is making ads for just one customer.

There is some great content out of tech recently around growth. Just remember, most are acquiring customers unprofitably and have raised money. Remember your business goals before you just take the latest flavor from twitter into your next marketing meeting.

I’ll say something most people in paid social won’t agree with. High-production ads perform. I think the reason people don’t believe it is that when most brands tested one, it was made to look cool. Nobody built it with performance in mind, so it didn’t work, and that became the story they tell. When we make a studio ad, I treat it with the same focus as any other ad. We start with the customer and what they actually want to hear. Then the hook, then a body that gets them to buy. The difference is what we can show. We’ve had studio concepts with hook rates above 40%, and some of them have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, others into the millions. Focus on making a great ad. Use the tools (camera, etc) to help build formats and styles that differentiate you from others. And don't sleep on performance high-production ads.

This should have way more views than it does. Thank you for this Dave. You are a gem
The math doesn't math anymore. Ecommerce is a harder game than it's ever been and there's less money for brands than ever. Brands, Agencies, and Service Providers need to change their models.

How to make a great static ad: Over the last five years my team has made more than 50,000 ads for brands spending anywhere from a few thousand a month to a million on Meta, and a big share of that spend has gone to statics. You need to use statics to your advantage instead of talking about what it can't do compared to video. You get one frame. It is the cheapest way I know to test messaging with ads. Every static we have made that performed started with a sentence about a customer. If you open a design tool before you can say what the ad is trying to communicate, you are going to push words around an image until something looks nice. David Ogilvy said that you spend 80 cents of your dollar on the headline. He was talking about newspapers, and it is just as true for a static or the first three seconds of a video in today's world. If the headline does not earn a second look, nothing else on the image gets read. So I put most of the effort there. If the ad does not work as a headline alone, no amount of design will rescue it. Once the headline has someone, everything below it has a different job. It is there for the person who already wants to learn more. That changes how I write the callouts and subheads. You don't have to do callouts, but if you do, keep them to about three. Pick the three that build off the headline and cut the rest. Design has one job, which is to make the headline easier to read. Bad design pulls the eye somewhere else. Good design sends it straight where you want it. What To Do With This Pull up the last static you ran. Cover everything except the headline. Now write one sentence about the customer that headline came from. What did you know about them that made you write it? If you cannot write that sentence, the ad started with design. That is probably why it is not working, and it is the first thing I would fix. If you can, count the callouts and cut them down to three. I made a full video on this, where I take you through how we make static ads from research to copy to design, with the finished ads on screen.
