I’m grateful to former governor and senator Lamar Alexander for moderating a discussion about my book “Reagan: His Life and Legend” at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville. @LiverightPub
Last week I wrote that the U.S. military needs to rethink its strategy because it can no longer count on forward bases being safe from drone attack. Now apparently it can’t even count on a base in the UK. Shows we haven’t invested nearly enough in drone defense. wapo.st/4jsqNEo
I see some people claiming that because more oil is getting out of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump is “winning” his war. The Brent crude oil price chart tells a different story. And of course Iran isn’t actually giving in to Trump’s demands.
Russia agreeing not to attack its own energy facilities isn’t much of a concession. :) Even if this mutual ceasefire holds (very doubtful) most of the run-up is diesel prices is actually caused by Trump’s foolish war with Iran.
Trump doesn’t seem to realize that “Mission Accomplished” became a punchline after George W. Bush gave a speech aboard an aircraft carrier with that banner as a backdrop in 2003. Unless Trump’s goal was to have Iran close the Strait of Hormuz, it’s hard to imagine what “mission” he has accomplished.
Speaking on @CNN last night about how Trump is embarrassed and humiliated by the failure of his war of choice against Iran—so he’s lashing out at Oman and South Korea. youtu.be/ckGyxdRvK4Y?is=QnoD…
Great timing. Trump is aligning himself with North Korea while it’s sending more men and missiles to help Russia attack Ukraine.
