GANEJOU A mysterious village marked on a British map from 1733 west of what is now Kingston…(Fort Frontenac) What and where is “GANEJOU”? Some research reveals it is likely a misspelling of “Ganneious”, an Iroquois settlement occupied by the Oneida nation temporarily from roughly 1660 to 1690, located near the present-day Hay Bay area. Ganneious was near modern-day Napanee, possibly around Hay Bay…The name "Ganneious" is likely a French variation of a word meaning "Oneida".  The village has never been found as far as I know…
