How does childhood trauma shape the brain? New research from @washumedicine and @PrincetonNeuro reveals how early-life stress can leave a lasting imprint on the brain, increasing vulnerability to stress later in life. @Meaghan_Creed @WashUPain medicine.washu.edu/news/how-…

Congratulations to Habby Wang, PhD student in the @Meaghan_Creed Lab, on receiving the Trainee Professional Development Award from @SfNtweets 🎉 Habby’s research identified a novel brain pathway that could provide a more precise target for treating chronic pain.
Our team at WashU Anesthesiology is hiring a post-bac Research Technician to help us understand cognitive changes in chronic pain. Former post-bacs have all earned authorship and gone on to grad or medical school. Please pass this on to your networks!

Feeling renewed gratitude for pilot funding from the Rita Allen Foundation (ritaallen.org) that allowed us pursue this years ago!

Dr. @JeremyThom64917's FAER-supported work challenges how we think about dopamine in chronic pain, and what it means for affective co-morbidities.
Check out his poster Sunday afternoon (I8) or hear me talk about it Monday morning (MIN18) #SfN25

My @NIH study section will not meet tomorrow because of the government shutdown. This may seem trivial but rescheduling these meetings will delay funding decisions for months to even a year! Let alone the uncertainty of what the FY26 budget will be. Awful for US scientists! 😓

If I had a nickel for every time a woman named Rosalind got neither the credit nor a Nobel Prize for her work, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Congratulations to our 2024 medicine laureate Victor Ambros ✨
This morning he celebrated the news of his prize with his colleague and wife Rosalind Lee, who was also the first author on the 1993 'Cell' paper cited by the Nobel Committee.

Just a reminder, our lunch and learn summer series does not provide lunch. The first lesson - there is no free lunch!
Fruits of a collaboration with the @Vijay_Samineni lab. Many of the ventral pallidal cell types we know and love (and hack in rodents) are conserved in primates. Lead by Lite Yang with @lisazfang and @VincentCostaPhd. Hopefully the first of many contributions to come!
