Today, the calendar makes a right triangle, for the last time this century.
This Saturday is October 24, 2026.
Write it as 10/24/26 or 24/10/26, and the same beautiful relationship appears:
10² + 24² = 26²
100 + 576 = 676
But here’s what makes today special.
There are infinitely many Pythagorean triples. Only a handful fit our calendar.
Using the rule
month² + day² = (last two digits of the year)²,
the month cannot exceed 12, and the day cannot exceed 31. Those small limits leave exactly 12 qualifying dates in this century.
Today is the last.
The next will be March 4, 2105:
3² + 4² = 5²
That is a wait of more than 78 years.
An infinite family of triangles. Just twelve appearances on a century’s calendar.
Happy Pythagorean Triple Day.

I think this is a certain kind of psychosis that comes from the VC drive to "reinvent" everything from buses to ice-makers through the lens of tech capital. Like, every experience must now be 5 times removed from actually just doing it.
In San Francisco, you can't just watch a new movie.
You’re invited to a VC funded screening.
You wait to see if you get off the waitlist.
You text your friends to see if they're going to the same one and no, not that other one that everyone else went to.
You thank the startup (ty @ExtendHQ!) for hosting.
You post online that You Saw Everything to humble brag that you went a watch party.

While I certainly have some very big critiques of Mayor Lurie I just saw him stop, hop out of his ride, and check on someone to make sure they were breathing and hadn’t OD’d.
There weren’t any cameras around and he seemed genuinely concerned.
Gotta give him props for that.

It’s 9:37a and I’m about to embark on a 10 hour movie marathon for @sfstandard including the Musk doc, the Liz Holmes doc, and the Social Reckoning.
I have an egg McMuffin in hand and a head full of intrusive thoughts on the nature of regret.
Anyways, smash that subscribe!

Lena Dunham reflects on what she would tell her younger self, just as ‘Girls’ was starting out. “24 or 25 year old is by their very nature not supposed to listen to anything a 40 year old says,” she tells TIME, reflecting on the advice she received as a young adult.
With HBO greenlighting a five-episode revival of “Girls,” the series is set to return a decade after its 2017 finale.

This is a big, big deal. When people talk about the necessity of a free press, this is what that's all about.

This is a really BIG deal for Alice Griffith and Bayview-Hunters Point.
Thank you to Mayor Daniel Lurie, City Attorney David Chiu, and all of the City staff who helped make this happen.
I truly believe government can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. But I also believe it takes a community willing to stand up, organize, and dictate what they want their neighborhood to look like.
A special shoutout to the Bayview Hunters Point Coordinating Council for their continued advocacy and for helping push this forward.
And most importantly, to the residents of Alice Griffith who spoke up about the conditions in their homes: the City heard you loud and clear. Now, let’s make sure these resources translate into real improvements for families.
