I’m so thrilled for this opportunity to work with the stellar folks at @jgi on one of my favorite plants 🌸

S. acaulis is widespread in tundra ecosystems. @MeganDeMarche of @UGA_plantbio will combine sequencing w/ 30+ yrs of data monitoring the plant’s growth & reproduction to see how genomic variation drives its responses to climate change. jgi.doe.gov/announcement-202…

This is worth a read … something that always seemed mysterious to me suddenly seems intuitive 🤯
WHY do we divide by n-1 when computing the sample variance? I've never seen this way of explaining this concept anywhere else. Read on if you want a completely new way of looking at this.

You know you’ve got a good lab group when they can roast you in unison 😂
The first person to give feedback during lab meeting: “You know what could be helpful here?” All: “a conceptual model”

I had a great time talking alpine plants and a little bit of everything with Matt for one of my favorite podcasts!
Ep 417 is here & its about alpine plants & env change 🔎🌱🗻 Change is something all organisms must deal with throughout their life. This is especially true for long-lived plants. Learn why @MeganDemarche investigates how alpine plants may or may not adapt indefenseofplants.com/podcas…

Dick’s papers were deeply influential to me. They were so clearly written and accessible, they inspired me to try my hand at a modeling chapter for my PhD. As a student I invited him to give a seminar and spent a long breakfast picking his brain. He was so kind and encouraging.
