Somnium Connect!

I’ve seen a lot of discussion lately about AI being used in virtual worlds, from thumbnails to actually building worlds. For thumbnails, I get the concern. If a thumbnail shows something amazing and you enter the world to find a cube… yeah, that sucks 😅 That’s one reason I like that @SomniumSpace has a 1–5 star world rating system. If a world is misleading or low quality, users can rate it accordingly. But AI being used to actually create worlds? I’m not against it. I’m creative, but I’m not a coder. For my latest world I used AI to help script a card game in C#, and after a LOT of tweaking, we can now actually play it together in VR. Pretty cool! I see people saying “only build what you can build yourself,” but I don’t agree. Creators have been using premade assets, systems and packages for years. Why recreate a car system from scratch if there’s already one that works perfectly for what you need? And I bet quite a few of the packages people use nowadays were made with AI or had some AI assistance along the way. Of course, I know there are plenty of you talented scripters out there who build everything yourselves without AI, but let’s be honest, AI is definitely becoming part of the toolbox for a lot of people. AI is a tool. For someone like me, without it I either couldn’t build certain things or I’d first have to spend a huge amount of time learning how to code them myself. And when you’re creative, you know how it goes… your brain has already jumped to the next creation before you’ve finished learning how to code the previous one 😂 AI helps me turn those ideas into something that actually works. What’s your opinion on AI in virtual worlds? 👀 P.S. This message was written by AI, just to mess with you guys 😆💙👀🫣
