It depends...
Womb removed, ovaries kept?
You won’t go straight into menopause, but it may arrive earlier than expected.
Ovaries removed too?
Yes, this is called surgically induced menopause. Your oestrogen & progesterone levels drop quickly, so symptoms can feel more intense.
📍Can a blood test tell you if you’re in menopause?
If you’re under 45 and experiencing symptoms like hot flushes, irregular periods or mood changes, your GP may offer a blood test to check your FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levels. High FSH usually means low oestrogen – a sign you may be in menopause. The test is often repeated 4–6 weeks later to confirm.
If you're over 45, blood tests aren’t usually needed. Hormone levels can fluctuate wildly, making tests unreliable. In most cases, menopause is diagnosed based on your symptoms – not your blood!

🌟 Supporting Menopause in the Workplace – Because No One Should Have to Choose Between Their Health and Their Career 🌟
The gender pay gap widens with age, and menopause is a major contributing factor. 😳 Too many women reduce their hours, turn down promotions, or leave their jobs altogether due to a lack of workplace support and understanding. This doesn’t just affect careers—it impacts businesses, productivity, and talent retention. 📉
At MenoHealth, we help organisations create menopause-friendly workplaces through our award-winning support packages and our CPD-accredited Menopause First Aid Training. Businesses can ensure their employees feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. 💡

🌟 Ready to take control of your bladder? 🚽 Don't worry, it's totally possible with a little commitment and knowhow. 💪
Let's start by understanding the muscles we need to work when exercising our pelvic floor. Think of your pelvic floor like a hammock at the base of your abdomen, supporting your bladder, bowel, and uterus. But during menopause, weakened muscles due to loss of oestrogen can lead to leaks, known as stress urinary incontinence (SUI), or an overactive bladder, known as urge incontinence. 😣
But fear not! Pelvic floor exercises, often called Kegels, are your secret weapon. 💥 There are two types of muscles to tone: slow twitch (for maintaining control) and fast twitch (for reacting to sudden stress). And the best part? You can train them independently. 🏋️♀️
For the slow twitch muscles, focus on smooth and gentle contractions. Breathe in, then out, completely relaxing your pelvic floor. Tighten those muscles as if preventing wind escaping, then lift and squeeze, holding for up to ten seconds before releasing. Repeat up to ten times. 💨
For the fast twitch muscles, it's all about quick and strong squeezes. Hold for just one second, then relax for one second. Aim for ten repetitions, gradually increasing strength. 💪
It might take some practice to stay focused, but it's worth it! Remember to avoid squeezing your buttocks, pulling your stomach in, or holding your breath. 💆♀️
Make pelvic floor exercises a part of your daily routine – aim for three times a day, alternating between slow and fast. And find ways to remind yourself, like during meal prep or while waiting in line. Soon, it'll become second nature. 💫
Ready to take charge? Let's do this! 💖

Struggling with night sweats? You’re not alone. 💦🌙
Waking up soaked, too hot one minute and freezing the next? It’s exhausting—and it affects both you and your partner.
Here are a few things that might help:
🛌 Swap your bedding & PJs – Menopause-friendly fabrics like bamboo, silk, or linen wick away sweat and help regulate temperature better than cotton.
🛏️ Try two single duvets – Less disturbance for your partner when you're tossing and turning.
❄️ Cool down – Chill pillows or a room temp of 16–18°C can make a big difference.
🌿 Supplements – Some find relief with black cohosh* (*not suitable if you’ve had breast cancer or take certain meds).
💊 Prescription options – If HRT isn’t for you, ask your doctor about alternatives like SSRIs, Clonidine or Gabapentin, which can also help reduce hot flushes.
You deserve restful sleep. 😴💚

🌸💫 Menopause and IBS 💫🌸
Navigating menopause can feel like a rollercoaster ride, especially when it comes to our gut health. Hormonal fluctuations during menopause can impact our gut's function. Estrogen influences gut motility and sensitivity. So, when levels dip, it can trigger changes in bowel habits, potentially leading to IBS symptoms. On top of that, the stress and anxiety that often tag along with menopausal transitions can intensify IBS symptoms. The gut-brain connection is real, and emotional upheavals during menopause can stir up IBS flare-ups.
But fear not! Here are some top tips:
🍽️ Mindful Eating: Keep an eye on your diet. While trigger foods vary, common culprits include spicy treats, caffeine, alcohol, and high-fat meals. Tracking your meals in a diary can pinpoint problem foods and help you steer clear of them.
💊 Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Some women find relief from IBS symptoms with HRT. This therapy can help stabilise hormonal imbalances, potentially easing the severity of IBS symptoms.
🧘♀️ Stress-Busting Techniques: Stress is a big IBS trigger, so mastering stress management is key. Practices like meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can soothe anxiety and promote gut health.
💊 Medication: Consult your healthcare provider about IBS-specific medications. From antispasmodics to laxatives, there are options to manage symptoms effectively.
🦠 Probiotics: These little helpers can rebalance your gut microbiome and ease IBS woes. Talk to your healthcare provider to find the right probiotic for you.
🤝 Seek Support: Connect with others facing similar challenges by joining a support group or speaking with a therapist specialising in digestive health and menopause.

Navigating the menopause journey can be challenging, and having a tight-knit group of supportive friends can make all the difference during those ups and downs. Not everyone will understand the complexities of menopause, so it's essential to have that select group who you trust implicitly. Sharing your experiences with them ensures a safe space, free from judgement. And, having a smaller group to confide in means more quality time spent with those who genuinely understand and support you. Embracing the menopause journey with a trusted inner circle can provide the reassurance and encouragement needed.
Tag your menopause mates and let them know you appreciate them!

You’re not alone here: lots of women experience thinning hair during menopause and many people notice their hair is not at lustrous as they age. It may well be to do with menopause as testosterone levels can become more dominant when other sex hormones diminish, or it could be due to stress, anaemia, low ferritin, thyroid problems or vitamin deficiencies. It’s wise to get medical advice to find out the cause, especially if you are losing your hair rapidly or in an unusual pattern, or if the skin on your scalp has become red or scaly.
Here are some self-help tips:
🌿 Take vitamin B7 (biotin) for healthy hair and nails.
💧 Gently dry hair with a microfibre towel to avoid damage.
🔥 Minimise heat styling; opt for air-drying when possible.
🧴 Use thickening shampoos and conditioners; skip daily washing.
🌱 Choose a gentle hairbrush to prevent breakage.
💬 Consult your hairdresser for suitable products, especially if you colour or bleach your hair.
Remember, you're not alone in this journey.
