“As a translator of works of Reformed scholasticism, I heartily recommend this new translation of Girolamo Zanchi’s Five Books on the Nature of God to readers. Those who read it will grow in the knowledge of God, which has as its end salvation in the triune God. The book is a fine piece of scholarship in Reformed scholasticism and a treasure trove of brilliant theology.” –Casey Carmichael

I am a member of the PCA ad interim Study Committee on AI. What follows is my own opinion. I do not speak for the committee.
Several friends have asked for my thoughts on the work posted on “The Faith Received” (TFR) today. Here are my observations:

I recently published a translation of bk 1 of Zanchi's On the Nature of God. Took about a year. I'm ~100 pp. into translating bk 2.
Yesterday, TFR released an AI translation of all 5 books. Although unaware of this project, I figured something like it would happen eventually. 1/9
Today we're releasing a brand new resource called The Faith Received.
It's a massive online library and research tool featuring nearly 20,000 primary sources across church history.

Z brings ch 13 to an end:
"The purpose for which the name Jehovah was revealed is so that, by remembering this name, we might always call to mind and know for certain that He really will fulfill everything that He has promised in Christ."

PSA: God didn't reveal His name so that we could use it to perform miracles.
Many are the superstitious abuses invented concerning the name יהוה. More edifying is the actual use for which God revealed it to His people.

What's distinguishes Moses's knowledge of יהוה from that of the patriarchs?
According to Zanchi, the experiential knowledge of God as the one who keeps His promise of redemption:

When did God make His proper name known?
If the name of the LORD was called upon in Gen. 4, then why does God tell Moses in Exod. 6 that the patriarchs did not know Him "by the name יהוה"?
