Last evening we received news of the arrest of our brother Lt Gen Peter Elwelu over security related allegations by UPDF. The news of a possible insurgency brewing in Teso have taken many people in the region by shock. Since last evening, I have been receiving several phone calls from several opinion and Party leaders in Teso and Eastern Uganda about this matter of grave concern. Aware of our turbulent history, We Together with other senior leaders, have embarked on a consultation with responsible institutions to ascertain the details and magnitude of the said matter. We have also informed H.E the President about the concerns of the majority of people in Teso. For now, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Eastern Uganda, we call upon the population in Teso and Uganda at large to remain calm as we continue engaging the responsible authorities on this matter of public interest. Finally, as leaders and the people of Teso, we look forward to a speedy and transparent inquiry into these matters while urging the members of the public to desist from making unnecessary inflammatory statements to alarm the community in the region . Today, my old comrades of the Arrow Boys, under Honourable Musa Ecweru, visited us in Entebbe. Maj.General @AsaphMweteise represented me at the meeting. I know all of Teso is with us. Eyalama.

Baguma Richard — Rwatooro — has passed away this evening. One of his friends called me crying to break the news. I had spoken to him only yesterday, through another friend who was hosting him in Fort Portal; he had lost the password to his number. He seemed to be on the road to recovery. We joked and laughed. Rwatooro was joyous and optimistic. A mega heart. Boundless energy. Things of death are painful, random and arbitrary. You cannot make sense of them. I am speechless. Sad. But I am also grateful I knew such a beautiful soul. God bless his soul. Baguma was a tireless campaigner for social justice, a healthy environment and good governance.

Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo @SpireJim has spent years using his voice and talents to hold power accountable as his contribution towards a better society for us all. Instead of honoring his work, the regime is actively working to silence him through, among other oppressive tactics. A court order was recently issued against him, by which he is required to pay a total of UGX 30,000,000/= within 14 days or spend three months in prison. Why? Because he made a post on his social media platform calling out an injustice that, in the court's wisdom, amounts to contempt. I am calling on all Ugandans of good conscience, in Uganda and abroad, to stand with Dr. Spire in whatever way we can, and help him resolve this challenge.
