On October 14, 2026, two Bangladeshi nationals, Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar, were reportedly executed in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. According to the account, they were not married to each other. Bangladeshi media reports that Nazrul travelled to Saudi Arabia in 2022 to work as a cleaner, while Siti was also working there. In May 2023, approximately one month before Hajj, the two were allegedly caught by Saudi security forces engaging in immoral acts inside a mosque in Mecca. They reportedly spent more than three years in detention before being tried in a Jeddah court. After being found guilty, they were executed in Mecca on October 14, 2026, reportedly following a royal order. Their bodies were sent to Bangladesh on October 18. Why was the punishment so severe?
