📍 UNEP's IMEO continues to monitor the location through MARS. This case demonstrates how satellite data can help identify methane emissions, support timely repairs and verify mitigation—delivering measurable climate benefits.
🔁 MARS, managed by the UNEP's IMEO, draws on over 30 satellites to detect major methane emissions and alert governments and companies so they can take action.
⚙️ Since the reported mitigation in May 2026, no further emissions have been detected at the site.
🚨 The emissions, caused by a leak in a corroded dry gas pipeline, had the same climate impact as driving approximately 356,000 passenger vehicles for a year:
