ALT Slight update on why we may need to crowdfund again soon: My husband, a below the knee amputee & ambulatory wheelchair user, was told by his employer, a nationwide retail chain, late last month he's not allowed to work as long as he requires the use of mobility devices. They claim it's because he would require assistance to evacuate the building in an emergency. He was hired about a month after he got his prosthetic leg and has worked there for nearly a year using crutches, a knee scooter, a walker, and his wheelchair without issue, but a district manager saw him and decided it was unsafe for him to work as a cashier. That sits down. Right by the front door. Because he -might- require assistance during an emergency. My husband is the primary earner in our household and we are now at risk of being homeless again. The Homeless Trust claims they aren't legally required to assist disabled people and have literally suggested we kill ourselves when it's legalized in Florida.
