He looked at his hands, noting how far the curse had progressed. He had never revealed to anyone that, according to the kelpie, the formulas required a sacrifice: each person who regained their humanity took a piece of his own. The king tried to speak, but seeing his son’s smile—even as he removed his hood and his body completed its transformation—he fell silent. The prince felt the magic flowing into him, the change occurring without any violence, manifesting only as a gentle warmth. By the end, Prince Albion had fully transformed. Despite everything, he was happy; the price he paid was steep, but the joy of seeing his most loyal men and friends restored to their senses—and having his family back—was overwhelming.
