Important new @TheEconomist piece on learning losses and the need for effective recovery approaches economist.com/international/… @benlpiper @angrist_noam @JaimeSaavedra22
Great to see this emphasis on the role of "purpose", which I agree is an underappreciated aspect of education system transformation.
As ~2k global edu leaders gather in Paris next wk, we ask "What does #TransformingEducation mean?"
@RebeccaWinthrop & I believe it must include 3 steps:
1: START WITH PURPOSE
2: (RE)DESIGN THE PEDAGOGICAL CORE
3: POSITION AND ALIGN SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Congrats on the paper coming out @danrodseg. This is an important paper, showing what can happen when a gvt commits to all children learning foundational skills, and reorients the system to achieve that goal.

It also contributes to important parts of the RISE research agenda, like how to align instruction with children's learning levels and needs riseprogramme.org/publicatio…, and the importance of an edu system committing to learning for all as a core system purpose riseprogramme.org/blog/purpo…
Glad to have it out as an @riseprogramme working paper!

I think the most important research to come out this year is this Advisory Note by @JaneliViljoen @Mpumi_NLM @stephengstaylor +Gabi/Cally/Carol Showing that COVID-19 learning losses in SA = 1,3 years lost! Avg 10yr-old knows less than 9yr-old pre-pandemic readingpanel.co.za/_files/ug…
Great partnering with @csea_afric and @Adedeji_Adenira on this important work!
We recently concluded a 2-Day intensive workshop in collaboration with @riseprogramme & Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford with key stakeholders from the education sector to understand the #learning crisis in Nigeria & suggest policy options to address them.
New working paper out on how an education systems framework can help to "understand success, diagnose failure, and inform action to bring about improvements to children's learning" - we put the framework to work with 2 case studies to understand coherence/incoherence for learning
