The safe disposal of unused and unwanted medication is one way to help prevent prescription drug misuse and protect Michigan communities. Today, all MSP posts are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving as drop-off locations for disposal of expired, unused and unwanted pills for destruction. Please note: liquids, syringes, inhalers and patches cannot be accepted. According to the @samhsagov, the majority of people who misuse prescription medication for a non-medical purpose obtained it from a family member or friend. Properly disposing of medications that are no longer needed can help reduce access to these drugs.

We’re wrapping up a critical cleanup in @CityofDetroit! After a fire at the former EMCO Chemical site, we partnered with Detroit Environmental Affairs and @MichiganEGLE to investigate thousands of unsecured drums holding flammable and corrosive materials—including acetylene, chromium trioxide, sulfuric acid and many more unsafe chemicals! To protect the community, EPA has been onsite since the spring to secure the drums, stabilize the area, and safely remove the hazards.
