I'm a granny who would love to make changes in the world but have come to realise the task is too great for one woman! With age comes wisdom - but not always...

Only £10 billion?
I had a great conversation with the UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham, and we are grateful to Britain for its unwavering, strong, and truly leading support. Today, Britain made a strong decision to provide an additional £10 billion in financial support – £7 billion in economic support over the next three years, and another £3 billion in British export support, primarily for the supply of much-needed weapons that will strengthen our protection of lives. This is on top of the annual support Britain already provides to Ukraine. A truly strong and very timely step – coming right as Russia needs to see and feel that Ukraine will not be left alone to deal with the problems Russia is so eager to escalate. Every step to strengthen Ukraine brings Russia closer to realizing that it must end this war of its own making. Of course, Andy and I also discussed sanctions policy, and Britain will remain principled on this – setting an example that matters globally. I am grateful to Britain, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his team, and to every person around the world who understands that standing with Ukraine is the right thing to do – that it means being on the right side of history. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

A little bit of kindness goes a long way. 🥰
Today I was asked if I am any good with phones by an elderly man as he was trying to open a picture message that his granddaughter had sent. After putting Sienna in her pram, I took a look at his phone which was a really old Nokia. As he didn’t have a smart phone I told him that he wouldn’t be able to view it. He was gutted and went on to tell me that it was a photo of his granddaughter and her new baby who he hadn’t seen yet as they live in Buxton. So, I forwarded the message to my phone and eventually managed to open the picture. He was so emotional seeing his great granddaughter for the first time and you could see his love for them both through his teary eyes. The man insisted on giving me £20 to treat my daughter to a toy as a thank you for helping him which I insisted I didn’t want, but he was having none of it. So, I asked him to wait there and I went to boots and printed the photo for him and ended up buying a frame for it too. When I returned with the framed photo, he was so happy, literally overwhelmed. This just made my day to make someone so happy. ❤️

I don’t want to post the video. You’ve all seen it. But I do want to write a love letter… Dear everyone in Britain, ( even you illegals) Just so you understand. The poppy is for the boys who never got to grow old. For the boys who were still somebody’s baby, brother, uncle or father. More than 600,000 of them. It doesn’t matter if you support war, hate your country, think you are a woman (even though you are a man). It doesn’t matter which God you pray to, or if you pray to none at all. It doesn’t matter who you vote for, what climate narrative you believe, or whether you believe Israel should exist or not! The poppy isn’t for you! It’s for those who came before. Those who fought for your right to be weird, annoying or even foreign. The poppy is how we say thank you. Thank you for giving us time, peace and choice. And attempting to ban our poppy by declaring it politically divisive isn’t a move towards freedom. It is an act of suppression. Understand that. The poppy is about love and loss. For you! So stick your rainbow flags and every other flag where the sun doesn’t shine and just wear your poppy. Those boys did not die as symbols. They died for you! Did you know that poppies grew across the battlefields where so many fell? As though even the land refused to forget the blood once given to defend it. So the poppy is for them. For those who came before us and paid in youth, in hope, in breath, in blood, so that we might have the freedom to be arseholes. So that we might even have the freedom to fight over the ridiculous, the inconsequential and the insane. Revere it, celebrate it and wear it. The very least you can do is that. Best The ordinary people.

So, the clocks went back at 2.00 a.m.! The end of British Summer Time. How many of you have been on You Tube this morning to get instructions on how to change the time on your alarmclock, microwave, watch, oven or the worst one your car!

On a day when several local primary schools have closed due to power cuts I am reminded of arriving at school in the 60s to find a gloomy class and no power, which meant no heating. We were told to keep our coats on and teaching continued with blackboard, chalk and pencils!

I doubt anyone will see this but something happened to me today that reminded me of the drawings that kept me going 5 years ago. My family is everything and my grandchildren are my world.

I was in primary school when the Aberfan disaster happened. The head teacher held an assembly and explained that a generation of children, just like us, had been wiped out. We said prayers for the families and held a collection #memories 😢 #Aberfan

It seems our politicians are deliberately creating conditions for social unrest. The destruction and vandalism we are currently witnessing in France should be a warning to every law abiding UK citizen
