AI you can trust starts with questions.
AT&T data scientist Natalie Gilbert puts skepticism to work by thinking through edge cases and making informed decisions instead of blindly trusting AI.

What a funny word, "trust...!?" xitter.cf/RapidResponse47/status…
.@VP: "There has been no company in the United States, unfortunately, that has abused this system more than Microsoft."
Microsoft laid off 6,000 American workers in 2025 after certifying that it could not find qualified American employees — yet the company was approved for more than 6,000 H-1Bs and filed 3,682 PERM applications, including nearly 1,000 applications for the same positions as the laid off American workers.

Trust is the last word I use when I think of you. xitter.cf/humble_analysis/status…
I worked at Microsoft for 20 years. This is exactly why and how Microsoft hired H1-B workers. It was not a secret, at least not in the Finance department. It was openly discussed. H1-B workers cost less and drove down demand for US workers, suppressing wages.
Near the end of my tenor at Microsoft, however, the motivation changed - now the H1-B program was primarily used by Indian managers to bring in more Indian workers, as a way to help their fellow Indians (at the expense of Americans).
@MicrosoftHelps what are you fishing for here? how do I know which other apps you want to snoop on? This is very suspicious!
Microsoft says its mission is to empower businesses.
My startup has spent nearly 3 weeks trying to restore its Microsoft 365 corporate email.
More than 20 hours of support. Multiple cases. Repeated missed callbacks.
Now @MicrosoftHelps says it cannot escalate existing cases.
We need accountability and a resolution.
agreed. useful agents still need a human paying attention

so you're telling me we shouldn't let chatgpt run the database at 3 am?
Did she have to train her own foreign replacement yet?

JD VANCE JUST CALLED OUT MICROSOFT FOR LAYING OFF AMERICANS WHILE BRINGING IN FOREIGN WORKERS TO REPLACE THEM.
Vance says Microsoft cut about 6,000 jobs while picking up around 6,300 H-1B visas and nearly 3,000 green cards.
He says no company in America has abused the system more than Microsoft has.
Imagine training your own replacement and then watching your company brag about record profits.
The H-1B program was never supposed to be a way for billion dollar corporations to dump American workers for cheaper labor.
Finally, we have a Vice President who puts the American worker ahead of Big Tech's bottom line.
Skepticism as a skill is the right frame. Natalie Gilbert hunting edge cases is what makes AI safe to scale. @Microsoft I expect "AI auditor" to be a standard seat on every enterprise data team by 2028, and the firms that teach users to question AI will adopt it fastest.
Please tell us again how you AREN’T screwing Americans. xitter.cf/lundukejournal/status/…
This statement from Microsoft, regarding the 6,000 H-1B visa applications this year, is wildly dishonest.
I spent many years working at Microsoft in the late 90s through the early 2000’s.
During that time I experienced and witnessed widespread discrimination against White employees.
- Long time “rockstar” White devs were given lower review ratings (and, hence, fewer pay raises) than their Indian co-workers (who were regularly less productive). Not occasionally. This happened so often that it was the norm.
- Indian managers would primarily only hire other Indian (and occasionally other Asian) applicants over White or Black applicants. Even when the White applicants were more qualified and local… and the Indian applicants required visa sponsorship, relocation costs, and extra accommodations. Again, not every now and then. This was the norm.
- On one time, the Indian management at Microsoft stuffed every White, Male employee (and ONLY White, Male employees) into a small office the size of a closet… while every Indian employee (even new, entry level ones) were given their own offices. Often with fancy-shmancy views.
I’ve kept in touch with many Microsoft engineers and managers… and, from everything I’ve heard from actual Microsoft employees, the situation has not improved in the slightest. It has gotten worse in many teams and Business Units.
Yes, most Microsoft employees in the USA are citizens of the USA. But they are not treated equally.
