The dissolution of the monasteries was a set of processes by which Henry VIII disbanded all Catholic monasteries, priories, convents, and friaries

This is one of the most extraordinarily evil things I've ever read.
That demographic who refused to leave the now heavily diverse areas of London like Peckham, Whitechapel, Lewisham, Woolwich etc are actually some of the worst racists you will ever encounter in your life. Rotten, bitter and wicked individuals.

One of the most genuinely astounding things is someone saying 'there's no way X could cause Y in future' when X has *already* caused Y. High tier refusal to acknowledge reality.

Crucially, moving to another state doesn’t allow one to avoid the tax, since the tax would be owed by billionaires who lived in California at the beginning of 2026. Not 2027 — but beginning of 2026. There is no incentive to move to another state. One cannot avoid the tax by moving. This is one of the main reasons why it was structured as a one-time tax.

I bet the Europeans currently watching the Red-Green Alliance burn their cities to the ground take solace in the fact that they are WAY more civilized than that country across the Atlantic that publicly executes Islamic terrorists.

The ultimate aim of right wing immigration policies should be, the full collapse of the university sector. Every single instance of progressive institutional capture, be it in the media, bureaucracy, the judiciary or the Parliament itself, is downstream of academia. One failed university is worth 100 election victories. Once the universities are blown up, the entirety of Australian civil society can be rebuilt - by who ever finally pulls the pin.
Universities were already seeing the impact of rejected international students visas, but recent announcements to further curb migration have anxiety in the sector. smh.com.au/national/internat…

Isn't the Laughing Cow thing kinda obviously for World Mental Health Day? Two week teaser to build brand awareness and then an anodyne message about loving yourself and reaching out if you need help.

I'd be happy to take bets on this one vs Palestine tbh, it just seems like such an obvious marketing move

"Oh, Laura!" "Hi, Tom." "Hi. I didn't know you were in town." "Yeah, these days I try to visit the Bay once a year before the, you know, Singularity kills us all~" "Uh huh." "Plus they're doing an eight-hour, one-man Butoh interpretation of all 122 chapters of *Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality* down at Lighthaven." "Butoh?" "It's a form of avant-garde Japanese dance-theater." "Ah." "A single performer strips naked, paints himself completely white, and proceeds to slowly and meticulously writhe through a series of increasingly grotesque and uncanny movements in a deliberately absurd, dream-like attempt to capture the primal human experience." "Huh. And that's supposed to help with the Singularity?" "As much as anything else does." "Nice, nice. Hey, are you also here for Slutcon?" "Excuse me?" "They could really use a girl like you." "Of all the—no, I'm not here for Slutcon!" "Ah, sorry, sorry." "I can't believe you'd ask that!" "Right, yeah. My bad." "Slutcon! To even—" "Obviously, you're here for Whore Forum." "what." "You know, where they bring all the most successful whores in the world under one roof to—" "I am NOT here for Whore Forum!" "Oh." "Or Slutcon!" "Sorry, I didn't—" "I don't even know the difference!" "Ah, well, Slutcon is for learning how to handle (or manhandle) sluts and Whore Forum is for learning how to make a lot of money—" "Okay, well—" "—being a whore." "I'm not doing that!" "Admittedly, there's some overlap." "And I never have!" "Right, sorry, I wasn't trying to suggest—" "Well, you did!" "God, yeah. My apologies, Laura. Forget I said anything." "I will." "Skank Social?" "What?" "Will you be going to the Skank Social later?" "No, Tom, I will not be going to the Skank Social later." "Because it's double-booked with the Tart Tournament?" "I don't—how many of these are there?" "You mean how many events centered around shameless, sexually promiscuous libertinism do we have?" "Yes!" "Well, there's Slutcon, Whore Forum, Skank Social—" "So I've heard." "—the Tart Tournament, the Slut Gala, the Slut Gathering, the Slut Summit—" "How many sluts do they need?" "—Slutapalooza—" "How is that different from any other palooza?!" "Facts. Then there's the Trollop Triennela, the Floozy Fête, the Howling Harlot Hullabaloo—" "What the hell is wrong with this community?" "And the Wanton Wantin' NonCon Con." "Okay, well—" "Oh, and the Hold That Hoedown." "Okay, well, I'm not here for any of that! I'm a modest woman who believes in consensual interactions—" "Oh, don't worry. It's all non-consensually consensual — unless you don't want it to be." "—and guarding her virtue." "Ah, so you're here for PrudeFest." [sigh] "You know what, fine. You got me, Tom." "Oh?" "I am here for a brazen bacchanalia to indulge in acts of increasingly deranged and morally-debased behavior at the behest of prurient, prying eyes." "I knew it! Wait, let me guess: Voyeurama." "No, Tom, it's called the Jam-It-Up-Your-Ass Jamboree!" "Wow. I thought those tickets sold out months ago." --- [m][title: The Complete Bay Area Social Calendar]
Hilarious that people keep asking me if I am in San Francisco for Slutcon. I have never felt less seen or understood. ME. At SLUTCON. WUT.

My favorite thing about literary prizes constantly falling for AI is it shows how worthless modern literary criticism is. All the prestige gone in a moment, the pretense at some sort of superior understanding or appreciation up in smoke.
On AI capabilities: the French press is all over the Haitian-Canadian novel C’était ça ou mourir. It's winning basically every award you can win, and was tipped to be the 2nd Canadian winner of the Prix Goncourt. Only one problem: 1/2

An underrated positive externality of public transit is that it’s a honeypot for identifying everyone who’d commit a crime for literally $3. Done thoroughly, it’s a massive improvement for public order.
Mamdani’s NYPD btw. This could be handled via a ticket with a fine payable to MTA, or even a summons written on the spot with a court date. Instead, officers are given permission to make custodial arrests, haul ppl into central booking, and charge them w/ A Misdemeanors over $3.

For all the schizophrenic swiveling of the Argentinian at least his soul is pure. His islands are in the hands of the British, he wants them back come hell or high-water. The mincing "aye, we should leave... but the English need to pay for our pensions!" Scot is just pathetic.

this works in sweden only because swedish people inherited an enormous amount of social trust. you can build unbelievably generous, functioning welfare systems only when most people see it as an actual safety net instead of free money. most swedes take pride in their work and would feel shame in abusing the system. they take what they genuinely need, don't take what they don't, don't abuse the system and remember that their neighbor is paying for it. this depends on social norms built over centuries and that can only exist among a specific type of people. once enough people stop reciprocating (with cultural change, failed assimilation, organized fraud, or because enough people learn that the system can be gamed) honest workers start subsidizing the lazy and dishonest. then trust falls, and eventually also the much-cherished welfare programs that depended on that trust. this is the dirty secret of functioning social democracies: the welfare state inherited the culture and people that made the welfare state possible. and then, over time, it started destroying the conditions that allowed it to exist in the first place: extreme social trust, strong norms of reciprocity, a highly competent population, and a homogeneous society. once enough people who don't fit with the culture take advantage of the system, the system breaks. socialist policies only work among people who are ashamed of abusing them.
Hi. 😊 Swedish dude here. When our children get sick, we have 60 paid days per year to stay home with them. Per parent. They're separate from my 25 paid vacation days. Meaning I don't have to use my own paid sick leave. If I'm a single parent: 120 days. If my child has a chronic illness: 120 days If my child is hospitalized: unlimited days. These days reset every January. By law. every year until child is 18. Follow for more glimpses into life in a social democracy, where dignity is not a privilege. Peace ✌🏼

In Britain, you can be armed if you're Sikh, and you can cover your face if you're Muslim, but God help you if you're actually British.
🚨NEW: Police officers in Nottingham will soon be able to ask people to remove face coverings, but burkas will be exempt Refusal to comply could result in a £70 fine, while prosecution carries a maximum penalty of £1,000

Basically the Australian Government funds the activists who artificially create the justification for their policies which are then amplified by journalists who are also paid for by grant programs, then the majority of people who agree with these positions are being paid by the government to work in the public service or in adjacent government funded roles like the NDIS. It's one giant circular economy, paid for by the taxes of the minority of Australians who actually produce things.
The Digital Duty of Care movement is completely fake. "Teach us Consent" the NGO that inspired the Governments new attack on free speech recived 2.4 million dollars in Government funding last year. The Government is creating these political movements out of thin air.

When you talk about thinking up ways to trick people into holding your specific political views do you ever introspect about how you yourself came to hold them?
much ink has been spilled on the question of how do we get young men to be left wing and while it’s not a total fix i don’t think it could hurt to start making movies that lend themselves to being cut into socialist hype moments and aura edits

Putting the left and right wing pipelines side by side is funny. You’ll have one person who radicalized bc they became addicted to transgender porn while the other radicalized bc they saw their previously nice neighbourhood turn into a 3rd world ghetto with rampant crime

The year is 2045. Scores of heretics are burned at the stake after refusing to acknowledge the Holy 30 Marathons - a core tenet of the Ardayist Church of England. The Church's religious authority - a Brazilian shaman woman - denied their petition for clemency.

imma be honest. i think if u work at anthropic rn u should be pushing leadership *as hard as u possibly can* to implement and publicly announce a parallel pause. i realize there are maybe some reasons not to. maybe u don't really think openai is actually doing that much, maybe u think this is to some extent just marketing, maybe u think they paused one run but probably have many other more relevant ones going. maybe u think they did in fact pause but only bc ur ahead, and a brief delay could let them seize control of the situation. maybe u just think u have better aligned models and better sandboxing and monitoring already, and u don't need any such pause. sure. this might all be true. but u have said, often, from the beginning, that some level of coordinated slowdown and pause at points of danger is exactly what you want. u have said it publicly, ur c-suite, ur founders, ur official communications, ur employees, in the distant past and just weeks ago. and regardless of the overall impact, regardless of exactly what openai is doing, the public costly signal that u are willing to *actually do this* would be incredibly important. it would start to build trust that this isn't just marketing, it isn't just a game, that despite the intense rivalry there *is* a chance at coordination here. obviously these sorts of vague, open-ended, low-visibility company initiated pauses aren't what we need as a long term solution. but action like this is *what real solutions are built on top of*. take a chance on it
We have paused some frontier RL training to ensure that we can meet the appropriate alignment, security and monitoring standards for the new level of capabilities in front of us. Model progress is now extremely rapid, and we always said we would take action if we felt that model capabilities were outstripping the pace of safety and alignment. We care very deeply about AI safety. We believe the entire field will have to coordinate on shared safety standards, but will act unilaterally in the meantime. We expect confidence in safety to increasingly set the pace of AI progress. We are optimistic about the alignment work we are doing, and we remain committed to making frontier capabilities widely available. openai.com/index/pacing-mode…

The most absurd part of the entire Arday saga is people think the people who *uncovered* his fraud are to blame for his suicide, rather than those who *enabled* it. If he had not been relentlessly enabled he never would've been in this position.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself for writing this appalling garbage- how do you even look yourself in the eye? Arday is a fabulist and a fraud and you are a sleazy little self-flattering enabler- that you would dare ennoble yourself and preen in this way after being revealed as a willing dupe of this complete charlatan- I'm sorry but everything you believe in is rotten
