Both Nelson & Buckner were 2026 @Colts team captains. That says something too about 2026 doesn’t it. #ForTheShoe

We have acquired a 2027 fourth-round NFL Draft pick from the @49ers in exchange for DeForest Buckner.
So the bottom line for 2027 is we lost Buckner and Nelson and gained a 3rd and 4th round draft pick. Neither was assured on being on the roster in 2027 anyway. We get a 5th round pick in 2028. – at Carmel, IN

So far today, the Colts have added three draft picks:
🏈a 2027 3rd-rounder
🏈a 2027 4th-rounder
🏈a 2028 5th-rounder
Other potential trade targets include RB Jonathan Taylor and WR Josh Downs.

Had DeForest Buckner signed this off-season with another team, the highest compensatory draft pick that the Colts could have gotten was a 5th being that he is an 11-year NFL veteran. Rather than getting a 2028 5th, the Colts opted today for the 2027 4th.
Trade: Colts are sending three-time Pro-Bowl DT DeForest Buckner back to the 49ers, the team that made him a 2016 first-round pick before dealing him to Indianapolis in 2020, per me and @rapsheet. Now Buckner returns to San Francisco, fortifying the 49ers defensive line.
A 4th round draft pick? And that's the only pick? That suggests there was a problem or we got robbed. #ForTheShoe @Colts – at Carmel, IN

I’m not sure we couldn’t have gotten a better deal for the best guard in the NFL. Why not at least a 2nd or possibly a 1st?
We have acquired a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick from the @Seahawks in exchange for Quenton Nelson.

Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and @rapsheet. Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency.
But an all-time Colt now moves on to the Seahawks.
