Awesome work by Tudor. This is a fun story that started with a fairly unsurprising observation - that motor cortical activity dissipates rapidly after a CPG-driven movement is initiated. The explanation for why is surprising though and begets a bunch of interesting new questions
Very excited to share a new preprint - my first paper in the @MikeEconomo lab where we asked when and why the motor cortex is recruited for movement control 🧠👇 biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

In today’s @buCSNneuro seminar, Prof. @MarkChurchland from Columbia U. gave a great talk titled “It contains multitudes? Motor cortex activity accords with modern conceptions of network computation.” Thanks to both Brian DePasquale and @MikeEconomo for hosting!
Such awesome news and so, so richly deserved!

That's what I've been telling everyone!
This paper is just spectacular. The most impressive GEVI imaging I’ve seen. Just look at figure 3 by example 🤯🤯

If there's a better way to do voltage imaging in vivo, I haven't seen it. Even better that it doesn't require any expensive/custom parts. Beautiful work and beautiful data from Sheng Xiao.

Amazing news, congrats Vicky!!!!!
Congratulations to Dr. Maria Victoria Moya @MVickyMoya, winner of the 2024 Henry Grass Rising Stars in Neuroscience Award! This award, created in 2020, recognizes postdoctoral scientists from groups underrepresented in neuroscience. For more info, visit grassfoundation.org/henry-gr…
Looking forward to seeing everyone today! Cold weather but makes for beautiful views from campus!

This one hurts. My love of neuroscience began as a student in Craig's class, and grew while I worked in his lab as an undergrad - my first research opportunity. My heart goes out to everyone who knew him and loved him. today.duke.edu/2023/08/craig…
Super interesting project from the very talented @BirnbaumJackie1 and @MunibHasnain, who made a great team tackling a problem far more thorny conceptually than we initially thought. Has sparked A LOT of fun conversations with many people, and we'd love to hear more thoughts!
Super excited to share this preprint, co-first authored with @MunibHasnain (our first paper in @MikeEconomo lab)!

Friday show-and-tell: @MVickyMoya's 16-gene FISH for markers of cortical cell types, with exc/inh markers shown separately. How many identifiable layers are there in the neocortex anyway?
