Trick-or-treat forecast: And beyond... Rain-free for the little ghouls and goblins, with temps in the 70s at 5 PM, 71 at 7 PM and 66 by 9 PM. ⚠️ But next week is a different story. A storm system brings wind and rain, and some spots could see 1–2 inches. -We need it. A MONSTER STORM IS CHURNING NEAR ALASKA! Take a look at this massive storm system spinning across the North Pacific and Aleutian Islands! This is an incredibly powerful extratropical cyclone, bringing enormous waves, damaging winds, heavy snow and coastal flooding to parts of Alaska. And some of the numbers are impressive! WAVES: The National Weather Service is forecasting seas reaching 38 FEET between Adak and Kiska in the Aleutian Islands! That's roughly the height of a three-story building! Marine Storm Warnings are in effect, with winds reaching 50 knots, or nearly 60 mph. HEAVY SNOW: A Winter Storm Warning covers the northern Susitna Valley and Broad Pass, where 7–15 INCHES of snow could fall through Friday afternoon. Travel along portions of the Parks Highway could become difficult. COASTAL FLOODING: Along Alaska's western coastline, communities near Hooper Bay could see water levels rise 2–4 FEET above normal high tide. Coastal flooding is also a concern around the Kuskokwim Delta. Here's what's fascinating from a meteorological standpoint. Unlike a hurricane, this storm gets its energy primarily from strong temperature contrasts in the atmosphere rather than warm tropical ocean water. These powerful extratropical cyclones can grow enormous and produce hurricane-force winds over the open ocean! And while 38-foot seas are impressive, remember that significant wave height represents the average of the highest one-third of waves. Individual waves can be considerably larger! It's another reminder that some of the most powerful storms on Earth aren't tropical systems at all. I'll continue bringing you the biggest and most interesting weather stories from around the world right here on eastTNweather! @burksandogle At @burks&ogle we’ve built a reputation for delivering strong outcomes. Sweating in your costume or bundling up for candy? Knoxville has experienced a little bit of everything on Halloween! Our warmest Halloween reached 84° in 1950, while the coldest afternoon topped out at just 40° in 1930 and 1993. And yes… we’ve even had Halloween snow! A trace was recorded in 1918, 1930 and 1993. Anyone remember those 1993 flakes? The wettest Halloween brought 1.12 inches of rain in 1951, but completely dry Halloweens have been much more common—71 of the 116 years shown! This year looks much more comfortable for our little ghosts and goblins. Expect cloudy skies and mild conditions, with temperatures easing from the mid-70s late Saturday afternoon into the upper 60s around 7 PM and mid-60s by 9 PM. What’s your most memorable Halloween weather, my friends? Download the free eastTNweather app for updates as we get closer. How about a run at 80° on Friday, East Tennessee! Halloween still looks cloudy and mild, with mostly dry conditions for trick-or-treating. Then some much-needed rain heads our way Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your week, my friends! Dead branches, weak or damaged limbs, cracks, and hazardous trees can become especially dangerous when exposed to strong winds, heavy rain, ice, and winter storms common to East Tennessee.

Our next rainmaker moves our way! This still could produce some light rain late Saturday, mainly south of I-40. Then, heavier showers are still looking likely on our Sunday! * MEDIC is the primary blood product provider for 24 hospitals and emergency air and ground transport services across 23 counties in East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky. * 1 in 7 of us will need a blood transfusion in our lifetime. * Only 3% of eligible donors donate blood products. •The shelf life for red blood cells is 42 days. Confidence is increasing that East Tennessee could pick up some meaningful rain this weekend—but cooler weather may take a little longer! We stay dry through Friday, with a slight rain chance Saturday before chances increase to 50% Sunday. A few showers could linger into Monday. Moisture streams in Saturday into Sunday, with forecast PWAT values exceeding 200% of normal. PWAT measures the total water vapor in the atmospheric column, so that’s more than twice our typical moisture for this time of year! That deeper moisture supply supports the potential for a soaking rain and locally heavier downpours. Despite our recent dry stretch, some communities remain above average for October rainfall thanks to earlier rain, while others are below average. It hasn’t been evenly distributed! Confidence is increasing that East Tennessee could finally pick up some decent rain this weekend! We stay dry through Friday, with only a slight chance Saturday before rain chances increase to 50% Sunday. A few showers could linger into Monday. The second graphic shows PWAT—the total moisture available in the atmosphere. Moisture streams into our region Saturday into Sunday, with forecast values exceeding 200% of normal. That’s more than twice the typical atmospheric moisture for this time of year, supporting the potential for a soaking rain and locally heavier downpours! Even after our recent dry stretch, some communities remain above average for October rainfall thanks to earlier rain, while others are below average. Rainfall has been far from evenly distributed! For Halloween plans, the rain chance remains low for now, but I’m watching late Saturday into Saturday night as moisture increases. Sunday currently looks like our better opportunity for rain. I’ll keep fine-tuning the timing and amounts, my friends! Download the free eastTNweather app for updates. Jackets this morning, short sleeves this afternoon! East Tennessee is starting this Tuesday with a fall chill, with temperatures in the upper 30s and 40s across much of the region. But a nice warm-up is on the way! Afternoon highs climb into the low to upper 70s from the Plateau to Knoxville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities. That’s a temperature swing of around 30 degrees or more in many communities! Dress in layers, my friends, and enjoy the comfortable afternoon! So you're saying there's a chance.....?? I am! Now, there is still a chance for some light rain late in the day on Saturday for some Trick or Treaters, but the majority of it comes through late Saturday into Sunday evening. Sunday is still looking like the wetter day... which we need the rain! It's a beautiful week this week with temperatures trending nearly 10° above average come Friday! However, as we get into the weekend, I'll be watching a couple of disturbances that will bring us some rain, at least that's the way it's looking. For now, Halloween stays mostly dry, but Sunday could bring some much needed rainfall. Check back in this week to see how things evolve. Improving the lives of the people we serve
