One death is too many deaths Medical training shouldn’t be hazing. I pray one day medicine culture changes from academic hazing mindset to a true wellness mindset.
Nakita was a classmate of mine, and an inspiration to all those who knew and worked with her. She deserved better, and was working to improve the lives of all residents and trainees. RIP Dr. Nakita Mortimer.

Dr. Nakita Mortimer, I'm sorry #medicine failed you. I often wonder how many physicians are we going to lose before this becomes a focus for healthcare in a meaningful way. Won't have attendings if we can't protect residents! #SuicidePrevention

Rest Well Dr Nakita Mortimer 😔 Residency programs across the country need systemic and institutional overhauls. Residents (we) are struggling. We lost another bright light too soon. #Residency #SuicideAwareness #InstitutionalOppression #ResidentPhysicians

This really hurts my heart. We’re taught to heal everyone around us & yet given no time to heal ourselves.
This is my dear friend, Nakita. Nakita and I were medical school classmates and both interns in New York City. Nakita tragically took her own life on May 26. She is such a beautiful soul. She was so fun to be around. She was intelligent, charismatic, and confident. (1/x)

Black women are more likely to live if cared for by a Black physician. The mortality rate of Black babies is cut in HALF when cared for by a Black physician. Quite frankly… We need you. #MochaMedicine #RallyUp
