I've reviewed 800+ books, untangle international tax by day & believe mush in literature is taboo! Love my Scotch. Tweets are mine & RTs aren't endorsements.

I've reviewed 800+ books. Praised the brilliant. Buried the insufferable. Dostoevsky remains undefeated and unblemished. International Tax pays the bills. Cricket feeds the soul. Scotch lends equilibrium. Follow if you believe literature is too important to be polite about.

To the editors at @DeccanChronicle : Please ensure that the most rudimentary checks are performed before an edition is cleared for publication. Whether accidental or intentional (the latter seems to be a contemporaneous fad), this is totally unacceptable.

1/n: "Who is capable of loving longer, a man or a woman?" Chekhov poses it at the end of a story about a train and a mad mathematician. Richard Flanagan builds a whole book around it: Question 7. 🧵

6/n: Then the personal: Flanagan trapped in a kayak, legs jammed, water surging, for hours, until a friend he calls only "P" rescues him. In the calm, he watches himself fight, as though from outside his own body.

7/7: No genre can hold it. Writing of worth, he says, "confounds time and stands outside of it", seeking one insistent answer: who loves longer? He doesn't give it, but he urges us never to stop trying to love. My review: 👇 blogternator.com/2024/06/04/…

Dear Mr. Gand, we are totally with you.
Dear Mrs. Sitarama, 1.Which "legal and commercial matter" required Tata Trusts and Tata Sons to be hosted at Amit Shah's residence? 2.When is crony number 1 going to appear in the game and which pieces of Tata is he going to get? Finally, all India's businesses except 3-4 of your cronies, already hate all of you and don't need any incitement.

1/n: Is pessimism a prelude to depression, or is depression a trigger of pessimism? Martin Seligman, the founding father of positive psychology, argues that optimism can be learned. A thread on Learned Optimism 🧵

6/n: Permanence: "This will never change." The pessimist nurses an antipathy to any light at the end of the tunnel. The optimist sees a lost battle in a longer war.
