The petitioner is lawyer John Muremi Njomo (advocate John Njomo).
His High Court petition (HCCHRPET/E717/2026), certified urgent today, challenges the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2024 just passed by the National Assembly. It removes the legal duty under Section 39 for IEBC to livestream presidential results as announced at polling stations.
Njomo argues this risks reduced transparency, public scrutiny and confidence ahead of 2027, potentially enabling irregularities. Electronic transmission and portal publication of forms remain required.
