So now I get to pay for transmission lines to power a data centre owned by a billionaire tech bro, and in return, I also get to pay increased power bills.
At least buy me dinner first.
Rewriting laws, creating Crown corporations that could rival TC Energy, building new natural gas pipelines and increasing prices for consumers: what a leaked document says about Alberta’s AI data centre and oil push thenarwhal.ca/alberta-ai-dat…
Who? Me? Accountable?
Inconceivable!
“I don’t know that anyone is going to want to do a citizen’s initiative after this,” she said. “I put two questions forward that were part of a citizen’s initiative campaign, and everybody blamed me for it.”

Danielle Smith can say all the words she wants but separatists will continue to threaten her party and our government if they are in power. No one likes instability but small-c conservatives are particularly repelled by it.
12 months and counting.

John Ibbitson compares Alberta and Quebec separatist movements: "What you don't have in Alberta is that deep-seated nationalist sense, and what you don't have is that quality of leadership. These are, I hate to say it, very petty men."

I will die on this hill: The government is not the boss of reporters.
The "question limit" is a COVID hangover. If politicians don't want reporters repeating questions after the "limit" they imposed to avoid pushback, they should answer them the first time.
I believe “FarmGeek” is Tanya Clemens, who was part of Keith Wilson’s oddly-named “Let Alberta Decide.”
Chris Scott (Whistlestop), the other APP board member tweeting about this, is running for the UCP board in November.
The Alberta Prosperity Project says it fired Jeff Rath and Mitch Sylvestre, removed both from its board, then deliberately kept the whole thing quiet until after the referendum because it didn’t want to distract from the vote.
Most failed states wait until after independence to start falling apart.

This rings true.
In 2001, I was living in KCMO. I ordered pizza but didn’t have cash. I asked if they’d take credit and they said no…
… but they’d take a cheque.
So.
Barclays cutting 5,000 due to AI?
Highly doubtful.
Banks just aren't that on top of it. I was at Money20/20 this week, and even fintechs admit AI is still being developed, especially when it comes to transactions that need to be fully automated and trusted. PayPal's own CEO put agentic commerce revenue around 2028.
My read is these cuts are cost-cutting BS.

"You gotta sleep in the bed you made"-@PeterGuthrie99 says "probably 25% of UCP MLAs are separatists" & questions whether Premier Smith will remove them.
He warns the UCP has made so many enemies that they could now outnumber the party's supporters.

Danielle Smith’s leadership could be at risk if she refuses to back their push for a secession strategy according to Mitch Sylvestre

A reminder that the law initially said two questions asking essentially the same thing could not be asked within five years. Then the Premier changed the legislation to get her preferred question about separating.
She does that for separatists.
