Hey so, no this isn't a joke. No this isn't surprising.
This person has been making incredible pieces of art since well before AI existed, more than that they literally have concept art that is absolutely at industry standard quality on their portfolio.
As someone that's been in the art community and industry for decades now, this is NORMAL pricing once you get past the base indie standards. When you start getting known, getting a name, getting an audience, this is normal.
If you're mocking it, if you're aggressive about it, you're not the commissioner type this artist is going for. High prices not only shows that they know their own worth for their time and skill (including the years it took to hone their skill), they're cultivating their commissioners too in a way.
Now if this person showed up, out of the blue, nobody knowing them, charging this price, yeah I'd be confused. But they didn't. This is just the first time YOU'RE seeing them.

To this day, it’s still taboo for art to be commercial. People basically expect it to be free. But never doubt your worth. Years of experience and trial and error have gone into making it, so you can price it at whatever you’re comfortable with. In fact, I’ve seen that the higher the price, the more it sells. It’s just a loud minority who complains, and they wouldn’t buy it even if it cost a few bucks.

$4500 ÷ 80hrs = $56.25/hr
$800 ÷ $56.25 = 14.2hrs.
she chose $56.25/hr as her rate.
US rate, that is average for a Junior to Senior Concept Artist.

Sorry buddy, but these are perfectly reasonable mistakes in large projects that take so long, humans get tired and make mistakes, which do not devalue the art in any way. This artist has had a fairly consistent art style, even from almost a decade ago.
