Loved hearing this discussion with Mixtape Museum curator Sommer McCoy on @sparkcbc. I still have a mixtape from late 80s Jamaica - a treasure.

Op-Comic: Vinyl is back. And also ... cassette tapes? Really?

Op-Comic: Vinyl is back. And also ... cassette tapes? Really?

It seems CDs were always endangered, competing with tapes at first and then supplanted by digital files and streaming music. But don't count them out.

@andee_tagle writes abt The Enduring Romance of Mixtapes. I don't know about the romance, but will never forget the Mixtape my son gave me as he went off to college & I was newly divorced. It had everything from Gipsy Kings, to Elvis Costello & made me smile with every track.

I grew up in the era of mixtapes when I traded rock and heavy metal mixtapes with friends. Some were musicians who would play riffs in the spare tape at the end of shorter albums: theatlantic.com/family/archi…
