So we did a thing @orias0_o #3dprinting #benchy @DanielNoree #doyoueven3dprint you gotta bleed for this shit.

Motion is just a corexy driven bed running on 3 mgn9h rails. This was purely for fun/testing to see if I’d run into skipped steps. I wouldn’t want to run the printer outside if that.

Funny enough it was supposed to be pink 😂. I had warping on my first tray of parts for it then realized I didn’t have enough filament left so pivoted to purple. I am very happy that it ended up being purple.

This is just using fairly standard stepper motors and only 2209 drivers running at 24v so it’s nowhere near peak really. But yes, flow/retraction and cooling would limit part quality so it’s more for fun and to see how the motion system is able to hold up without skipping steps.

Holy cow the detail is insane. Does it require a special file type for the painting? Just trying to think how you would specify what color to put where on something 3d coming from mainly painting objects in a slicer.
lol never thought I’d be running a speed test for a bed at 20k acceleration and 500mm/s but here we are. The Antithesis Aether is a rad little printer.

Super freaking cool. I love seeing creative ways and techniques for using 3d printing/prints. Thank you for sharing 😊

This is so freaking cool. Did you design the mold/shape for this? Also I assume PLA for the purple but is the housing around it petg? Or does the thickness of that part just not get soft enough for it to be an issue even in PLA?

I would love to see the process used to thermoform these. I’ve seen people make the former using printed parts but don’t think I’ve seen anyone print and then thermoform the print like this.

My latest free tool, ScanRuler.com, can automatically reverse-engineer your 3D Scans! Just tell your AI agent to connect to the ScanRuler MCP give it an stl and tell it to reverse engineer it. A detailed video and a custom skill will be released in the next few days!

OrcaSlicer V2.5.0 Alpha is here 🐋
This is the most feature-packed release in OrcaSlicer's history: more than 950 pull requests from over 140 contributors.
🧩 Python plugins: extend the slicer without maintaining a fork, and share your plugins on Orca Cloud
🧱 Texture Displacement: stamp real, printable 3D texture onto any surface
🎨 Color mixing: blend new colors from the filaments you already have loaded
🏭 Belt printing: conveyor "infinite Z" printers, sliced natively
👯 IDEX & IQEX parallel printing: two to four parts at once
✏️ Design tab: a parametric CAD workspace inside the slicer (early preview)
⚡ Speed Dial: press Space, run anything
Plus Tool-changing algorithm improvements, precise Seam modifiers, startup in about half the time, slicing ~35% faster, and hundreds of fixes.
It's an alpha, so some of this is experimental. Back up the projects you care about.

Haha getting there the long way is something I am a bit of an expert at 😅. I’ve started the research phase a couple of times and then squirrel onto something else.

Maybe that is the better and more sane call in this case. 🤔 The original plan was to find an existing project, and at the very least like you said it would surely save cost/time. Well then I look forward to checking it out when it’s ready to be shared 😊.

I’ve been wanting to make a tensile tester for years and funny enough one of the reasons I accepted a Z1 Pro was so I could use it after the review to machine some parts for it. I really want to see yours and the process but think I’m going to wait until I’ve designed/built mine.

Seeing it actually drive was such a cool feeling. The because of the amount of time there gone into it so far but also because of some concerns I had with friction in the gearing. I worked it in with a drill bit until today didn’t know how it would actually go.
Jackson took the @LDOMOTORSJASON UNIMOG for its first drive today. One of the wheels has got some pretty good wobble due to print tolerances but it didn’t seem to impact anything. Can’t wait to get the rest of it assembled!

It is not a default no. Am I making a functional part that needs tight tolerances? Do I need absolute best looking part I can get? If the answer is yes than I might tune that filament. However, I use so many machines and materials and defaults get me 95% of the way there.
