An ever needed reminder, for both sides of that verse. “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17

This is the worst example of trying to teach God during prayer I think I’ve ever heard.

I can't imagine going to church and hearing a voter's guide instead of the law and the gospel.

What a way to end an introduction: “May the unerring Spirit illuminate the mind, and guide the pen of the writer, that he may not prove an ignorant patron of error, but a well-informed advocate for truth! May the same infallible guide smile on this feeble attempt for the good of the reader, that the minds of the ignorant may be instructed; the consciences of the unawakened alarmed; the hearts of the disconsolate comforted; and real holiness promoted in all into whose hands these pages may come!” —Abraham Booth, The Death of Legal Hope

Jesus Christ should never be made a scapegoat for political pragmatism. Invoking His name does not sanctify political expediency, nor does appealing to His kingship excuse the compromise of Christian principle for the sake of temporal power. Christ is not a convenient justification for whatever political arrangement we happen to prefer. His authority is absolute, but our political judgments are not. Confusing the two does not honor His lordship, it presumes upon it.

If we’re one step removed from it then does that make Westminsterian Presbyterians bland evangelicals?
So many in 1689 Baptist are basically refugees from bland evangelicalism so mostly one step removed from it. If i had my druthers Id strip this nerd of both his name and confessional position if i could.

“Christ is all in all."—Colossians 3:11. “Now, as the only distinction which marks the Christian from other men, and the only essential distinction in the new world of grace, is Christ, we are led to see beneath this fact a great underlying doctrine. In the realm of grace, things are what they seem. Christ is apparently all, because he is actually all. The fact of a man's possessing Christ is all in all in the church, because in very deed Christ is all in all. All that is real in the Christian, all that is holy, heavenly, pure, abiding, and saving, is of the Lord Jesus. This great granite fact lies at the basis of the whole Christian system, Christ is really and truly all in all in his church, and in each individual member of it.” —Delivered on Lord's-day Morning, August 20th, 1871, by C. H. SPURGEON

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:12-14

All elect believers of all time experience union with Christ (the seed of the woman) by virtue of the benefits of the covenant of grace, the new covenant, not by virtue of the covenant with Adam, nor by virtue of the covenant with Noah, ... 1/2

Horton is right. It’s shocking how many pastors have detailed views on geopolitical or cultural matters, but aren’t sure if the Nicene Creed is biblical. “It is amazing what a lot of Christians (including many pastors) seem absolutely certain about and what they regard as up in the air. Although there is not a single passage in the Bible that tells us what Jesus would do on a whole host of personal and social issues of morality, economics, politics, and law, we often hear confident jeremiads and assertions by the same people who express ambiguity (disguised as humility) about matters clearly addressed and treated as matters of great importance in Scripture.” - Michael Horton

“The Power and Authority which he asserts to himself is, all Power in Heaven and Earth; Power to institute and appoint Laws and Ordinances, how and after what manner God ought in Gospel-Times to be worshipped; Power to give Repentance and Remission of Sins; Power to congregate, to teach, and govern his Church as the supreme Lord, Head, and Ruler thereof; yea, and Power to give Eternal Life to whomsoever he pleaseth. A Power that is given to him alone, whose Laws and Appointments none have any Power to dispense with, nor change or alter.” —Benjamin Keach, Gold Refin’d

The claim that no Protestant believed the state could produce saving faith by coercion is beside the point. Protestant establishments historically coerced religious conformity through fines, imprisonment, exclusion from public office, and compulsory observance. The Baptist objection has never depended upon the absurd notion that the magistrate could regenerate a soul. It concerns whether Christ has authorized the magistrate to exercise civil jurisdiction over religious conscience and worship. Denying the possibility of coerced regeneration does not absolve an establishment of coercing religious profession. That’s exactly the distinction the Baptist argument exposes.
Baptists in recent years have written entire books refuting the idea that the state can coerce faith—an idea that literally no Protestant in history affirmed. Darling repeated that refutation like a month ago.

Key to Romans 9: It's not about dual membership in the Covenant of Circumcision. "Paul evidently shews, that as Israel literally, was chosen out of other people: so that Israel spiritually are chosen out, from among both Jews and Gentiles" -Isaac Backus books.google.com/books?id=tN…

Halloween has become the modern equivalent of the difference between eating meat which was sacrificed to idols and participating in idol worship. One of them is perfectly fine.

In a church that primarily does expository, lectio continua preaching, how often would you expect your pastor to “stand against feminism and egalitarianism”? Asking for everyone asking.

Brother, 1) It's not "the Baptist reading." It's the "Chrysostom, Poole, Ames, Melanchton, Vitringa, Musculus, Calovius, Piscator, etc" (all paedobaptist) reading. It's the standard Lutheran reading. contrast2.wordpress.com/2016…
