“The system runs on trust. Ignore its rules.”
Broadly recognized as a serial fabulist who had utter contempt for the law, Trump mentor Roy Cohn was no cartoon villain, Marc Fisher argues. He was a brilliant tactician and a loyal friend, especially to his circle of New York buddies in the worlds of politics, the media and showbiz. He was also an effective litigator, albeit one who did near-zero preparation for court and was frequently accused of paying off judges.
He also had foundational beliefs still being used today:
Delay, deny, lie, and attack.
Ultimately, according to a new biography by Kai Bird, his saga portrays “the fragile character of American democracy.” momentmag.com/book-review-ro…

For the past few months I've been reporting on the Jewish literary landscape, where both Zionists and anti-Zionists have felt excluded and silenced. Will new publishers and organizations solve the problem or seed more division?

“In Judaism, as in most religious traditions, we believe that all human beings were created in the divine image. AI might exhibit some human traits—like creativity, intelligence and even empathy—but most faith traditions believe that humans are not simply a composite of data and algorithms but rather possess infinite worth and dignity.
AI can’t love or hate. It can’t cry or laugh. It has no sense of patriotism or loyalty nor any feeling of mission or purpose—those motivations that lead people to sacrifice their well-being or even their lives for the greater good.
In many ways, AI is like any other technology. It is value-neutral. How humans use it is what matters.”
AI is becoming part of our daily lives: from motor vehicles to the military. But can it align with Jewish values? Rabbi Rick Jacobs (@URJPresident) explores the spiritual implications of AI. momentmag.com/rick-jacobs-ai…

“I was a pretty politically disengaged person until October 7. To see the vitriol coming out of the left was terrifying to me, and I saw Trump take an unequivocal stance on Israel.”
“I’m not about to give an advantage to the Republican Party.”

A new film by Roy Cohen serves as a letter to his long lost friend, Aseel Asleh, who was killed by Israeli police in 2000. It asks a question still asked to this day: is reconciliation possible? momentmag.com/after-the-peac…
“I think my name is on 120 million pieces of product around the world, but many people wouldn’t know my name.”

“Cutting off military aid to Israel is 100 percent wrong.”
“Republicans have basically controlled Texas for 27 years, and they have worked very hard to limit voting rights and limit the ability to have an impact on the legislature or the courts.”
“I feel like the party that I’ve associated with for my entire voting life…is saying, you really don’t have a home with us.”
The Paxton/Talarico showdown may give Texas its first Democratic senator in decades: but how do Jewish voters in the Lone Star State feel about it? momentmag.com/jpvp-2026/
Bordered by Jordan, The West Bank, and Israel, the Dead Sea faces an ecological crisis. Upcoming Israeli elections may offer an opportunity for change. Ella Gorodetzky has more. momentmag.com/dead-sea-envir…
“We did not know rabbis were teaching a vicious form of Judaism based on hatred, revenge and death…Now, these kids listen to no one except these radical rabbis who encourage their horrible behavior.”
Around 300 young Israeli men, along with a few dozen women, live in illegal “hilltop settlements” in the West Bank. They are labelled both terrorists and major contributors to West Bank violence by the IDF, and yet they enjoy more lax law enforcement than Palestinians.
Eetta Prince-Gibson spoke to the mother of a hilltop settler about the modern settlement movement, its origins in Israel’s 2005 Gaza “disengagement,” and the radicalization of her son, who she says “may have killed innocent people.”

"If you read the DSA’s platform, you can see they are pushing for a better, more just and equitable society. But their policies are insane; they don’t lead to these outcomes. They’re trying to create a utopian world almost devoid of any human variables."
Ron Halber, JCRC of Greater Washington

"Historically, engagement is better for Jews than disengagement or antagonism. There are good reasons to disagree, to oppose, to make that opposition public, to say it loudly. But there are rarely good reasons not to engage."
Jonathan Jacoby, @NexusProjectUS

Tucker Carlson was accused by British conservative lawmaker Jacob Rees Mogg of “verging on defending Hitler” during a recent interview, in which the pundit said “who cares?” when asked about a potential British defeat by Germany in World War II. It is one of Carlson’s latest clashes with his former allies on the right. Marc Fisher wrote about how the GOP needs to reckon with the former Fox News host's extreme rhetoric.
