I knew all 3 of them. Barbara was the greatest.
Replying to @boyspinster
Yes, actually. The insane hype around Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn was ridiculous; when Barbara Stanwyck wiped the floor with both of them talent wise.

Katherine Hepburn was an awful actress. Nothing about her speech came off as normal. Overacting and annoying.

These people inhabit a really intense, self-reinforcing universe. Jason Arday has been 'cleared.' You can literally access the papers with the plagiarized and fabricated material. It's right there! It's a matter of objective reality! Not to them. We're cooked.

He’s been cleared and you contributed to a pile on that led to a loss of life. To accept an award nomination for it - well tells the world all it needs to know about the kind of human being you are.

The reporting by @jgro_the was factual, fair, proportionate and in the public interest. Smearing him for doing his job and doing it well is anti-journalism - anti-democracy if you really want to get into it - and people like Carole should think about where that line ends.
Not a single news outlet has reviewed its coverage of Jason Arday, for accuracy or proportionality. Zero attempt has been made to conduct any inquiry into the media’s role in his death. Instead, the industry has moved into self-congratulatory mode. This isn’t just tone deaf, it betrays a systemic failure

Arday was not just one of the most prolific and shameless plagiarists in academic history. He also fabricated many of his qualifications, claimed superhuman marathon running abilities, invented at least two cancer battles that simply hadn't happened, claimed on multiple occasions to have been pursued through the quads of Cambridge by knife-wielding racists (who had invisibility cloaks that shield them from CCTV), claimed his family had been sent a pig's head by racists triggering a police investigation (that the police subsequently confirmed never happened), claimed to have been in a TV show that aired years before his birth, and defrauded the taxpayer of a substantial 7 figure sum in salaries and other payments for jobs he was grossly unqualified to carry out.

If people want to know why the fourth estate rounded on Arday in the way it did, it’s because of this. When Jack approached Arday for comment on the plagiarism allegations, Arday reported him to the police and set Carter-Ruck on him. For doing his job. Once Nathan Cofnas broke the story in a blog, Jack told of Arday’s actions towards him and the other journalists took notice. You don’t threaten journalists without triggering repercussions. They started digging. It wasn’t a hit-job by the right-wing press. The most damning revelations were published by The Atlantic and The Guardian.

Recognition from fellow journalists is much appreciated as this is undoubtedly a difficult and polarising story, with a tragic outcome. Many people still do not accept its legitimacy but it was an important public interest story which sparked public debate about key issues of our age timeshighereducation.com/opi…

Grove could have broken this story over a year ago now if Arday hadn’t hounded the THE with a legal threat from Carter Ruck and a Met police complaint. And still you insist on silence.

Clearing his name after he’s no longer here to see it. Rest in peace, Professor Jason Arday. You deserved your flowers while you were still, here. #writing #WritingCommmunity

Cleared, in an independent inquiry by the publisher that published his fraudulent papers. Yep. That's all above board, totally innocent.

She really got away with it. Unbelievable.
Does nobody else find it incredible that both Hilary Cremin (Jason Arday’s boss at Cambridge University) and Phil Vickerman (his doctoral supervisor at Liverpool John Moores University) coasted through that entire scandal—from claims of fraud and plagiarism to a suicide—without being troubled by questions from the media on a single occasion?

This supposed “clearing” of Jason Arday for plagiarism is based on the fact that a single scientific journal decided not to retract a paper of his or take any further action such as issuing a correction. The journal did not come out with a statement saying they had “cleared” him. Nor did they asses all the papers of his that show evidence of fraud or plagiarism. They apparently took yet another look at a paper to which they had already attached a correction. But because the Byline Times is wedded to the narrative of claiming Arday was never at fault for anything, and because so is Bluesky, the claim flies unquestioned. Somehow these arguments never acknowledge that there is strong evidence that Arday stole another academic’s data and presented it as his own, which would be fraud.

Was Anne Rice inspired by Father Barre in The Devils when she created the vampire Lestat? I’m curious to find out if she was a Ken Russell fan?

Because this holier than thou act is so tired, one look through some of y'all ancient accounts and we can see some not very woke things that you'll just defend with "that's different" "that's not the same" "it doesn't mean that" "I'm neurodivergent, poc, lefthanded, ocd"
everyone saying "well if you werent racist you mustve been homophobic or transphobic or ableist or—" is such an insane self report

Can we talk about how Oliver Reed is the greatest actor never to play Heathcliff? There is even this 1940s illustrated version of Wuthering Heights which resembles him!!

The best thing you can do for someone living in self-delusion is to calmly, firmly dispel those illusions. Cambridge did the opposite. It upheld, authenticated and credentialed Jason Arday’s self-delusions. In the end, Arday had to face reality, and it proved too much for him.

Nobody should object to the fundraiser for Jason Arday’s family. He left a widow and two children, they deserve that money completely. Even if you have no sympathy for him, his family are still victims.

One thing the reaction to Arday’s suicide reveals is how much libs infantilize blacks and see them as children to be protected. It’s as if he were a 13 year old and not a serial fraudster in his 30s and you can tell they feel it viscerally
