Can’t help but think how much sweeter this would be for Cincinnati fans if Brendan Sorsby were the QB on the other sideline. Of course… long way to go.

The Moore Watchlist | Week 8 🏈 15 things I’m watching in college football today 👇 1. Indiana @ Michigan: Tommy Carr meets Bryant Haines Carr gets his 1st career start against an IU defense ranked 4th nationally in scoring, 9th in yards allowed and 4th in sacks. Eager to see what Bryant Haines has cooked up for him. 2. Texas Tech @ Cincinnati: Tricky spot? The Brendan Sorsby Bowl, without Brendan Sorsby. Tech is picking up steam, but I featured this as a potential Tricky Spot. Cincinnati has dropped 2 straight and returns home desperate. Big 12 chaos? 3. LSU @ Auburn: Can LSU win away from home? LSU has lost 8 straight road games. Auburn just knocked off #1 Georgia. A battle of Tigers on The Plains. 4. Western Michigan @ Toledo: MAC race game WMU is unbeaten in MAC play. Toledo is right behind them and has been excellent at the Glass Bowl. Quietly one of the biggest conference games of the day. 5. Tennessee @ South Carolina: Do we believe in Cocktober? Is Shane Beamer’s seat cooling? Can LaNorris Sellers and the Gamecock offense find success against a Jim Knowles defense that just frustrated Alabama? This should be a good one. 6. Iowa @ Minnesota: The CFP path goes through Floyd In the preseason, I said if Iowa went 2-1 against Michigan, Ohio State and Washington, they’d be CFP bound. They went 2-1. Now rival Minnesota gets a chance to spoil it. Also, Floyd of Rosedale is the 2nd best looking trophy in the sport (Land-Grant is #1). 7. BYU @ UCF: The hangover test BYU just beat #2 Notre Dame and climbed to #2 itself. Now comes a road trip to a rested UCF team. Interested to see how the Cougars handle success and an obvious emotional letdown spot. 8. Texas A&M @ Alabama: Can Marcel Reed change the narrative? Reed has struggled badly against ranked opponents. Now he walks into Tuscaloosa against an Alabama team desperate to stop a 2-game skid. Huge spot for both. 9. North Texas @ Navy: Pick your poison North Texas wants to throw it all over the yard. Navy wants to run it down your throat. Two completely different offensive identities with real AAC implications. Which style dictates the game? 10.Virginia Tech @ Clemson: New program, same question James Franklin was just 3-24 straight up as an underdog at Penn State. Today is his 1st game as an underdog at Virginia Tech. Can Franklin win one he isn’t supposed to? 11. Ole Miss @ Texas: When do we see KJ Lacey? Arch Manning is still the starter, but Texas has dropped 2 straight and the margin for error is gone. If the offense sputters again, I’m watching to see not just if Sark makes a change, but how quickly. 12.USC @ Wisconsin: USC finally visits Camp Randall The Trojans haven’t played in Madison since 1965. USC comes off a bye at 6-1, but this starts a brutal closing stretch. Interested to see how Lincoln Riley’s team handles Camp Randall at night. 13.UTSA @ Tulane: Can Tulane turn them over again? Tulane just forced 6 turnovers against Memphis. UTSA has been one of the AAC’s hottest teams. I’m watching whether the Green Wave can create that kind of chaos again. 14.North Dakota State @ New Mexico: First one to 20? New Mexico has the #1 scoring defense in the country. NDSU is #2. The Lobos are unbeaten in Mountain West play and NDSU is already bowl eligible in Year 1 at the FBS level. Love this game. 15.Houston @ Utah: Big 12 After Dark Two top-15 teams with legitimate conference title aspirations. Houston excels at extending drives. Utah wants to suffocate you defensively and control the game. Perfect way to close the night. What’s the game you think everyone is sleeping on today? 👀

Stanford had 234 yards of total offense in the 1st quarter against NC State tonight. That’s more than the Cardinal managed in ENTIRE GAMES against: • Notre Dame (202) • Wake Forest (197)

BYU holds a clear edge on third down in this matchup. While the Cougars’ offense continues to execute with precision, UCF faces an uphill battle to find consistency in high-pressure situations. A decisive factor in the game's outcome. Who wins: BYU or UCF?

College Football - Week 8 Tricky Spots Each week, I look for teams facing difficult circumstances beyond the matchup itself: travel, rest disadvantages, emotional letdowns, look-aheads and scheduling quirks. 3 games caught my attention this week: Texas Tech @ Cincinnati (+11.5) Tricky Spot: Texas Tech Texas Tech is rolling at 6-0, but this could be a sneaky challenge. Cincinnati has dropped 2 straight and is desperate to get back on track. The Bearcats piled up 622 yards of offense last week and still lost. Now they return home for Homecoming with something to prove. Meanwhile, Texas Tech has a ranked Arizona team waiting next week. An early road kickoff against a desperate conference opponent could be easy to overlook. Tennessee @ South Carolina (-2.5) Tricky Spot: Tennessee Tennessee is coming off a massive rivalry win over Alabama and now heads to Columbia for its 8th consecutive game without a bye. Meanwhile, South Carolina is coming off a bye with 2 weeks to prepare at home. Rivalry hangover potential vs. a rested conference opponent. BYU @ UCF (+7) Tricky Spot: BYU BYU is coming off an enormous win over #2 Notre Dame, a game that came down to the final play with College GameDay in Provo. Now the Cougars have to put that emotional high behind them and travel across the country to Orlando. Waiting for them is a UCF team coming off a bye, with 2 weeks to prepare for an undefeated opponent. UCF hasn’t been particularly impressive, but scheduling circumstances have my eye on this one. Any other tricky spots you see this week?

James Madison and East Carolina both scored late TDs to tie their games on the road. Both kicked the extra point instead of going for 2 and the win. Both lost in OT. What a night for App State and Memphis.

Throwback Thursday. Bowden Bowl I. 27 years ago tomorrow. The opening to Florida State at Clemson, a game that would become Bobby Bowden’s 300th career victory. “Father meets son for the first time in college football history.” The great Ron Franklin on the call.

SEC vs. Big Ten home-and-home series I'd love to see right off the bat: LSU - Penn State (both games at night) Tennessee - USC Plus these first-time matchups: Alabama - Oregon Ole Miss - Ohio State Georgia - Indiana Florida - Wisconsin Auburn - Iowa Which matchup would you most want to see?
NEW: Joel Klatt says there are scheduling agreements in place for when the College Football Playoff officially expands👀 "The next thing that will happen almost immediately is we’re going to get scheduling agreements between the SEC and the Big Ten. Top-end matchups, mid-tier matchups, low-end matchups, and we’re going to be expanding the valuable matchups in the non-conference, far surpassing what we have now." MY TOP 3 CANDIDATES FOR THE MARYLAND HEAD COACHING JOB 🐢 With Mike Locksley officially out in College Park, Maryland faces a pivotal decision about its future. Three candidates stand out to me: 1. Jason Eck | New Mexico HC Eck is an underrated program builder. After taking over a struggling Idaho program, he went 26-13 and led three straight FCS playoff appearances. At New Mexico, which hadn't had a winning season since 2016, he delivered a 9-4 record in 2025. Now 5-1 in 2026, Eck has shown he can build winning cultures at programs with limited resources. Maryland doesn't need the market’s biggest name; it needs a coach who can build from the ground up. Eck has done so twice. 2. Jake Dickert | Wake Forest HC For proven Power Four experience, Dickert merits serious consideration. After a solid run at Washington State, he took over a Wake Forest team coming off a 4-8 season and led it to 9-4 in 2025. The Demon Deacons are 6-1 in 2026. Dickert maximizes talent and builds competitive teams without the elite recruiting advantages Maryland faces in the Big Ten. The Terps may not consistently out-recruit Ohio State, Oregon, or Michigan, but they can outperform expectations through player development. Dickert has shown he can do that, though prying him from Wake Forest may be difficult. 3. Bryant Haines | Indiana DC Haines is the boldest option. He followed Curt Cignetti from James Madison to Indiana and helped turn the Hoosiers into a national championship program. The 2025 Broyles Award winner led an Indiana defense ranked second nationally in scoring defense (11.7 PPG) and rushing defense (77.2 YPG), and fourth in total defense (266.0 YPG). His units play fast, physical, disciplined football. He has also seen firsthand how Cignetti built a championship-caliber team at a school many thought couldn't compete nationally. His lack of head-coaching experience is a concern. Still, Maryland should consider an elite coordinator with championship experience and a clear defensive philosophy. Terps fans, who would YOU want leading Maryland into its next era?

If I'm Maryland, Manny Diaz is my target. I'd make Jason Eck and Jake Dickert say no, but Diaz is the guy I'd pursue. Elite defensive mind. Won an ACC title at Duke. Former Miami head coach. Familiarity with the Big Ten and the region, combined with Penn State's current struggles, could create an opportunity to elevate Maryland's recruiting in the DMV.
Sources: Maryland coach Mike Locksley has been dismissed. Maryland dropped to 2-5 on Saturday after a last-second loss to Rutgers. Locksley is 39-54 overall at Maryland, including his interim stint in 2015. Maryland is on a bye this week.

Week 8 schedule quirks: • Hawai‘i @ Northern Illinois is a conference game between schools separated by roughly 4,200 miles. Hawai‘i would have a shorter trip to Tokyo, Guam OR Mexico City! • Indiana is going for its 1st win in Ann Arbor since 1967 • Virginia Tech visits Clemson for the 1st time since 2012 - incredible considering both have been ACC mates since 2004 • Texas Tech makes its 1st trip to Cincinnati • Michigan State heads to UCLA for the 1st time since 1974 and plays in Pasadena for the 1st time since 1966 • USC visits Wisconsin for the 1st time since 1965 • Iowa State heads to Arizona for the 1st time since 1966 • Houston visits Utah for the 1st time since 1977 • Kansas State returns to Arizona State for the 1st time since 1989 • Oklahoma-Mississippi State meet for the 1st time ever • Duke-Virginia will play for the 3rd time in 342 days • Cal @ SMU is a 9 AM body-clock kickoff for the Golden Bears

Many considered Texas one of the best offenses in college football entering the season. They're going 3 & out more than a quarter of the time. 😬
