No one's going back to work at Stelco based on these announcements. Time to take over operations there and recall the laid off workers. Anything else is bumpff. Ottawa, Ontario unveil billions to help ‘fortify’ hard-hit sectors thetrillium.ca/insider-news/… via @Thetrilliumca

What's risky is maintaining the status quo and continuing to keep taxes arbitrarily low. Sutcliffe's approach has led to the degradation of our transit system and other public services. It's clear where the risk lies and it's with Sutcliffe.
Ottawa can’t afford to take a step backwards or gamble with its future. This isn’t the time for risky promises or uncertainty. I’ve presented a clear plan to keep taxes low and build on the progress we’ve made.

Tommy Douglas knew then what New Democrats still know today. If we could mobilize the resources of this country to defeat Nazi tyranny, there is no reason we cannot do the same to make sure that each and every person has what they need to live a dignified life. Happy Birthday, Tommy.

Avi Lewis on nationalizing Stelco: "This is a bad faith employer. We are in an emergency situation to save Canada's steel industry. The tool of public ownership is available to the government, and this is the time to use it."

Nationalize Stelco
Canada cannot afford to lose its steel industry. It's time to nationalize Stelco. Stelco’s American owners have broken their commitments. Their CEO supports Trump’s tariffs, which are designed to deindustrialize our economy and destroy our manufacturing base. More than 500 workers in Hamilton are facing layoffs. If we’re serious about saving these jobs and the Canadian steel industry, Canada must nationalize Stelco. Read my full statement here: ndp.ca/news/ndp-leader-prime…

Earlier today, I wrote to Doug Ford, asking him to work with the Prime Minister on a plan for public ownership of Stelco. We don’t make this call lightly, but this is a unique moment in our history. One that demands bold, ambitious, and urgent action. We must put ideology aside and put Ontario workers first.       Ontario cannot stand on the sidelines while our industrial capacity is dismantled. Inaction has already resulted in hundreds of layoffs across the province. If we wait any longer, we don't just risk losing good-paying, unionized jobs, but also decades of expertise and industrial capacity.   The best time to act has passed. The second-best time is now. Doug Ford needs to put his money where his mouth is and protect good Ontario jobs.

This! The British Labour government is doing exactly this.

Althia Raj on Bill C-39: "The Conservatives are not saying anything because they're like, well, we would not get away with passing this bill. So at least the Liberals will give us, eventually when we come in power, this piece of legislation that will prove helpful for the projects that we want to get done."

Workers rights aren't red tape.
We ran on a promise to cut red tape. To remove arduous, duplicative regulations across government. We’re keeping that promise — and making the big, necessary changes that will help us build, invest, and deliver faster.
