The thing about the term DSD, originally Disorders of Sex Development then changed to Differences of Sex Development, is that it’s a vastly broader term intrinsically than the classically recognised forms of Intersex. Much as the people opposed to Trans rights like to use it to try and minimalise the impact of their arguments on Intersex people and how the reality of Intersex invalidates their ideology. Because biological differences impacting biological sex development of any biological sex characteristics are really common. How common? Hirsutism involves a biological sex characteristic. That’s more common than all the classically recognised forms of Intersex on its own. Same with Allopecia. Same with PMOS Hyperandrogenism. Heck with this one alone we are at 5% of the human population! More than double the 1.7% Intersex figure of Blackless et al they get upset when anyone uses. Gynaecomastia? That’s about the development of a biological sex characteristic isn’t it. That’s 15% of the planet right there, add PMOS Hyperandrogenism and we are at 20% so 1 in 5 humans! And Trans has 68 genetic links in biological sex development mechanisms found so far. Whether or not we agree with Milton Diamond’s assertion that Trans is a form of Intersex or not it makes it a Difference of Sex Development. So when the people trying to harm both Intersex and Trans people in their efforts to eliminate Trans use DSD while trying to dismiss the reality of Intersex by claiming it’s so rare as to be unimportant they’ve picked up a term that actually drastically increases how much of the population it inherently covers. And let’s be clear, examples in news reports of people with Hirsutism, Allopecia, PMOS Hyperandrogenism and Gynaecomastia HAVE been harmed by people who mistook them for Trans and harassed and assaulted them in bathrooms. So they have absolutely been harmed by anti-Trans ideology because of their differences in biological sex characteristic development. So more than 1/5th of humanity is under threat from transphobia and transphobic policies. Regardless of the rest of their biology and their identity. Let that number sink in. More than 1 in 5.
