DB Box Tackling Drill - The box tackling drill uses a five-yard spacing setup with a pop-up dummy placed right at the center. - Ball carriers in the drill have two movement options: run at the pop-up dummy and cut back, or run at the dummy and continue straight through. - Defensive backs start the drill in a backpedal, keeping proper inside-out leverage and tracking the ball carrier's near hip while staying behind them to prevent cutbacks. - On chest-to-chest tackles, defenders should execute three bends and position their eyes lower than the ball carrier's eyes. - Defenders create knock-back power by over-exaggerating their leg drive upon contact, aiming to drive for five yards. - Once defenders make contact and secure the tackle, they can simulate takeaway opportunities by ripping at the football.
