🐉🏮 Marching in the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade! 🏮🐉 What an unforgettable experience being part of this year’s Flushing Lunar New Year Parade! Instead of watching from the sidelines, my family, past & current PreK families, and I proudly marched alongside CM Sandra Ung, celebrating this special holiday with our community. 🎊👣 Along the way, we were excited to see friends of our school—including Mr. and Mrs. Met! ⚾🏛️ It was truly a moment to remember. A huge thank you to @CMSandraUng for this amazing opportunity. This will be a cherished memory for our students and a reminder of how important this holiday is to our school community! ❤️🎏

For the past few years, Panda Express has generously matched Lunar New Year projects on DonorsChoose, and as a teacher in the largest Chinatown in NYC, I make sure to take full advantage of this incredible opportunity. It’s more than just funding—it’s about ensuring that my students see their culture reflected in the classroom in meaningful ways. Thanks to this match, our classroom has accumulated amazing resources over the years to make Lunar New Year a truly special celebration for our students and their families. Our space transforms into a vibrant display of dragons, lions, and a sea of red decorations, symbolizing good fortune and warding off bad luck for the new year. We read beautifully written stories by authors who grew up celebrating LNY, allowing our students to see their traditions and identities affirmed through literature. They craft dragons to take home, filling the room with excitement and pride. One of our most cherished traditions is our family engagement event, where parents, grandparents, and siblings join us to create their own red envelopes (hóngbāo, 紅包)—a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and family connection. In Chinese tradition, red envelopes are filled with money and given to children and loved ones as a way to pass on blessings for the new year. By creating these envelopes together, our families celebrate a tradition that has been passed down for generations, reinforcing cultural pride and togetherness. The energy in our school around Lunar New Year is truly special because we recognize how much this holiday means to so many in our community. Thanks to @PandaExpress and @DonorsChoose, we continue to make this time of year a joyful, affirming, and meaningful experience for our students and their families.
